Afternoon Tug 6-29-15

Ahhh, we kick things off on this lovely Monday afternoon with Jason Kelce, (who is Mr. Eagle these days) taking to twitter to rip on the juiced-up NY Giants punter Steve Weatherford. Not sure I want to waste time on words that come from a punter but give it a read and you’ll agree that Kelce ends this bout quickly with the “Of course a player who is literally not allowed to be touched is talking shit.” (ESPN)

This morning I went on Fox 29’s Good Day to break down exactly what Jahlil Okafor did with his jersey at the end of his media day. (Press play and see, dumb twitter topics are the things that you should have fun with)

Speaking of Okafor. Sixers head coach Brett Brown was a guest on Sirius/XM’s NBA radio this morning and said “This morning, I come in the gym at 6:30, and I see Jahlil in the gym sweating.” (Sixers.com)

Okafor was one of the first Sixers in the gym this morning and by noon, he was walking the Center City streets in a Dr. J jersey, taking pics with the kids. Wait, what was that about him not wanting to be here?

Flyers GM Ron Hextall is making moves. After having a pretty good draft this weekend, (I’ll leave that to the NHL experts, my man @JohnBarchard who will be joining me for a live broadcast tomorrow at 1PM. We’ll tweet the link) Hexy wasn’t finished! Sending fan favorite, Zac Rinaldo to the Bruins in exchange for Boston’s third round draft pick in 2017.

And finally to close out a perfect 4 for 4 here on the tug, the Phillies hired longtime MLB executive Andy Macphail to replace Pat Gillick as team president. Interesting press conference by the Phillies today. Few thoughts that hit me:

  • No Ruben Amaro at the dais. (Gillick, Macphail & John Middleton)
  • Phillies owner John Middleton is becoming the voice for all Phillies owners.
  • Macphail deals with saber metrics, says he used numbers during his run with the Twins. (2 World Series titles)

More information from CSNPhilly.com’s Corey Seidman on the hiring of Macphail. (CSNPhilly)
