Afternoon Tug 6-8-15

Before the finals started, two things I wrote down that I thought would translate to an upset over the Warriors. 1, If the Cavs are going to win 4 out of 7, its going to be an ugly series. Meaning, solid defense on both sides, lower shooting % by the Warriors. 2, Lebron has to put on a Jordan type of performance like the 93 finals vs the Suns, where MJ averaged 41 points per game. Well, last night the Cavs won and the Warriors shot a combined 39% from the field (47% during the season) and the chosen one, Lebron James after scoring 44 points on 38 shots in Game 1, tallied up 39 points, 16 rebounds and 11 assists in 50 minutes of play last night. AKA, TRIPLE DOUBLE. That’s exactly what the Cavs need, 3 more time this series if Lebron wants to bring his hometown a banner to raise next season. Two games so far, both of them went to OT. Theres a lot of people betting that these minutes, Lebron’s logging in the first 2 battles, will catch up with him eventually. (Hard not to agree) I guess by the end of next week, we’ll know if LBJ is human or not.

“(Dellavedova did) nothing really, just besides playing their game plan and playing defense like every pro is supposed to.” “But I doubt this will happen again, with the adjustments I’ll make once I look at the film. And like I said, one game is not going to make me stop shooting or alter my confidence at all.” Steph Curry post game. <-This goes out to all you Dellavedova superhero fans. I question if we were watching the same game? There was a ton of support for (Delli? Della? How bout we call him Matt) this morning. @folulky833 tweeted this to me today: “except Delladova made a bunch of key shots and shut down the league MVP. His teammates never get any credit, ever.” Talking about Lebron. Shut down? Matt played good defense, yes. But nobody shuts down Steph, he had an off night. Matt D was also, 3/10 from the field, 1/6 from 3’s and had 6 turnovers?! But he’s the real MVP!?!

History was made this weekend at the Belmont. Pretty cool to see that happen but it wasn’t a surprise. The field was weak and AP is one hell of a horse. Unfortunately I didn’t have the 6 horse in my super and as usual, I was 1 horse off. (That’s what everybody says after they bet on a horse race) Still impressive to see him win all 3 races in the fashion he did. Cruised in all 3. Not sure if it will happen but hopefully he races at Saratoga later this summer. Great time if you’ve never been. Get a hotel room for the weekend, pack a cooler on race day and enjoy. *Also, pretty amazing to read this: American Pharoah jockey Victor Espinoza is donating all his winnings from Belmont Stakes to City of Hope, a cancer research center in Calif. #SaluteVictor

Sad day at the office for Tiger- Tiger Woods y’all. My man had to play by himself on Sunday after shooting an 85 on Saturday. Tiger Woods finished dead last for the first time in his career. The best part about this story is, turn on talk-radio and there’s still people out there that believe he can turn this around. GIVE IT UP! (USAToday)

Ugly details released over the weekend about United States goalkeeper Hope Solo. Just a day before the start of the team’s Women’s World Cup campaign. The incident they we all knew about happened in June of last year. However, the details that she put out there are a little different than the ones ESPN’s “Outside The Lines” dug up. If these details we’re put out there last summer after the incident, I’m not so sure Hope’s representing the Stars and Stripes tonight. (ESPN)

Quick note on the Champions League final that was played on Saturday… FC Barcelona is good. Real good. And the -165 was about as easy as it gets. Amazing Champions League action all year. Sad its over. (SBNation)

Peter King checking in on the Tug today with a quick Eagles take from his MMQB:  think one of the football stories we’ve paid far too little attention to this offseason is what the Eagles have done with their skill positions. Added: running backs DeMarco Murray (the number one rusher in the league in 2014) and Ryan Mathews (number seven in 2013), first-round receiver Nelson Agholor. Subtracted: running back LeSean McCoy, wideout Jeremy Maclin. With Murray, Mathews and Darren Sproles—who, I’m told, is still a major favorite of Chip Kelly—I think you’ll see the Eagles be a top-three rushing team in 2015. That is: If they’re efficient at it, the Eagles will be in the top three in the NFL in rushing attempts this year. We talked about this last week. Run the football successfully, you win games. Love reading this.

Finally: SPOILER ALERT GAME OF THRONES. Stop reading if you care but damn, last nights episode was a crazy take on the “Never-ending Story.” You knew she was going for a ride on the dragon. lol. Great season so far, lots of fights and conflict. Looking forward to where this bad boy goes. (No I haven’t read the books)
