Morning Brew 7-2-15

Ohhhh its a strong brew to kick things off on this HOLIDAY WEEKEND! Everybody have a safe and amazing 4th & Go Team USA on Sunday.

Like Biggie said, “You’re talking to a robbery expert.” Last night, 76ers GM Sam Hinkie showed us again why that title is on his resume. Like a thief in the night, Hinkie and Sacramento Kings VP/GM Vlade Divac agreed on a deal that I can’t give you 1 reason why the Sixers should not have made this move. In short, the Sixers received last years number 8 overall pick, Nik Stauskas, Carl Landry and local product, Jason Thompson. Along with, a couple of draft picks for basically NOTHING. No really,  no BS. (Full details listed below) Not sure I have ever looked at a deal and came up with ZERO reasons not to like it, but I guess there’s a first for everything in life. The Kings are desperate to free up cap space so they can pursue Rajon Rondo & other veteran free agents. (On the road to that 9 seed in the west next season) While back here in Philly, next year continues to look better and better. Full details to the trade are here by @derekbodnerNBA

Live Podcast at 1PM today, lots of Sixers talk but need to squeeze in a little of everything before we party all weekend. Myself, John Barchard from Bleeding Green Nation and CSNPhilly’s own John Gonzalez will be joining us at 1:15. The link to listen is right here

Other NBA moves over the past 24 hours:

  1. Kevin Love is staying with Lebron. Yeah, no surprise. 5/$110
  2. Draymond Green staying with the Warriors 5/$85
  3. Jimmy Butler resigning with the Bulls 5/$90
  4. Danny Green staying with the Spurs 4/$45
  5. Paul Pierce heading home, Clippers 3/$10.6

Other stuff: HBO’s show “Ballers,”( Yeah, I like it….thought it would’ve been a little better. Still early though.) They hired former Steelers RB Rashard Mendenhall as a staff writer to really give that authentic baller feel. Mendenhall sat down with Mens Journal and told a story about the “Big Ben” wild days and other Steelers lockeroom stunts. Good read here (MensJournal)

This day in Hip-Hop history: Not in my top 5, but I know a lot of Hip-Hop heads have Nas’s: It Was Written in their top 5 albums of all-time. July 2, 1996 it was released. DoubleXXL takes you back.

And finally, This day in Philly sports history, and a big shoutout to the man Harry Kalas. July 2, 1993 the epic doubleheader that changed MLB rules about playing 2, took place. We all remember it, the second game that Mitch “Mitchie-poo” Williams won with a base hit to left, didn’t end til 4:40AM. Hats off to you, if you sat through both of those games. I know a few of you crazies did exactly that. RIP Harry.
