Matt Barkley Is “Excited to Get Back to the Mindset of a Pro-Style Quarterback”

There’s no question some people were surprised that Chip Kelly dealt away Matt Barkley last week, but it became evident that neither he nor Tim Tebow was what Chip was looking for in a third quarterback. Yes, the Eagles signed Stephen Morris to be their third quarterback, and according to almost everybody, they could have done better.

But I’m not certain they could have done worse than Barkley. The guy has looked like a deer in the headlights in all of the meaningful football he’s played in the last couple years, and doesn’t exactly look like the type of guy, on and off the field, that can lead an NFL team.

Carson Palmer, the Cardinals’ starter, basically said Barkley would sit and learn as long as he and Drew Stanton remain healthy.

“Being an older guy, I expect him to learn a lot,” Palmer said. “At this point in the season, it’s tough to come in and there are so many things going on; a new game plan and you’re learning a new offense and new teammates and all these things. He’s got an uphill climb the first month-and-a-half of the season, with just kind of getting acquainted with everything. But I think it’s a good fit for him.”

Have fun, Matt, being that pro-style quarterback you’re yearning for.

What the hell is wrong with being back in an offense that you are familiar with? A man is just trying to make light of his new situation. Enough with the sour grapes. Move on. Worry about Bradford now.

Not sour grapes. I just find it funny he doesn’t think Chip Kelly’s quarterbacks have a “pro-style” quality to them.

I mean, he certainly wasn’t “pro-style” and never will be. So I kind of get the sour grapes coming from, you know, him.
