Report: The Eagles Have Offered a “Firm” Contract to Vinny Curry

Vinny Curry has had an interesting few years with the Eagles. The fans love him, he seems to make plays when he’s on the field, but he’s been sparingly used by Andy Reid and Chip Kelly during his four seasons in an Eagles uniform. Curry is [Roseman’s? Reid’s?] second round draft pick in 2012, and loves WWE. So, naturally, the Eagles should keep him.

Here’s the report from Mark Eckel at NJ.com:

The Eagles have made a firm contract offer to free agent-to-be defensive end Vinny Curry, according to a source close to the situation.

According to the same source, Curry has not decided if he is going to accept the offer or test the free agent market in March.

Curry, a Neptune native, and a second-round draft pick in 2012, will become an unrestricted free agent when the market opens.

In an interview with N.J. Advance Media after the Eagles were eliminated from playoff consideration by the Washington Redskins, Curry spoke openly about his desire to play in a 4-3 defense, as opposed to the 3-4 scheme the Eagles have employed under current defensive coordinator Billy Davis.

The fact the team has reached out to Curry with what was called “a fair” offer might lead to the Eagles wanting their new head coach and coordinator to run a 4-3 scheme.

Whatever the team needs to do to bring Curry back, they should do. The 3-4 defensive scheme certainly didn’t work, and there are plenty of reports out there suggesting the Eagles have the talent on the defensive side of the ball to make a 4-3 defensive scheme one of the best in the NFL. So, at least there’s that.
