Tom Coughlin Didn’t Think the Eagles Were a “Right Fit”

It looked like the Eagles were hot after Tom Coughlin when Ben McAdoo decided to stay with the New York Giants and become their new head coach. I wasn’t thrilled about it, and called for the return of Chip Kelly. And that didn’t happen [literally, like minutes later]. And now that Coughlin has taken his name out of consideration for the Eagles’ head coaching job, Adam Schefter reports it’s because it just wasn’t the right fit.

While I’m glad Coughlin won’t be the next head coach of the Eagles, it’s kind of embarrassing how it all happened. It’s not like there were a lot of great candidates clamoring to coach this team. Coughlin didn’t want to deal with this shit. The Eagles’ roster isn’t bad. So, it boils down to Jeffrey Lurie and Howie Roseman. If this report is true about them targeting Doug Pederson as their main guy now, we can kiss being a contender goodbye.

Get rid of Howie.

UPDATE: Part of the reason it probably wasn’t a good fit is because Coughlin couldn’t take anyone from his Giants staff with him. Here’s Gary Myers with the details:
