Here’s a First Look at the Top Ten Super Bowl 50 Commercials

I remember when it was a big deal back in the 1990s when advertisers first began crossing the $1-million threshold to air a 30-second ad during the Super Bowl. Well, it’s 2016 now, and the advertising game has changed pretty drastically in the digital age of information oversaturation and instant gratification.

But companies are still paying insane costs to produce and air commercials during the Super Bowl. A 30-second TV spot for Super Bowl 50 is projected to cost north of $5 million. That’s up 11 percent from last year’s $4.5-million base price tag. And from 2005-2014, the price of a 30-second spot increased 75 percent, generating a total of $2.19 billion in sales. Naturally, with advertisers doling out that kind of coin, they want to reach the largest audience possible, and not just the 100-plus million viewers tuned into the broadcast.

All of this is to say, you need not worry anymore about holding in your bladder for fear of missing this year’s most fire commercial. More and more ads are being leaked before the big game, and by Monday morning, a roundup of the best and worst commercials will probably be plastered in your inbox, your local news show, and whatever home page your browser is set to. When it comes to Super Bowl ads, “FOMO” hardly exists these days, unless you are the type that needs to experience it all “live,” that is, during CBS’ tape-delayed broadcast.

With that being said, here are my top picks of the Super Bowl 50 commercials that have already leaked. And let me just add, it’s wonderful to finally be able to just type a nice, even number 50, in lieu of all those antiquated Roman numerals.
