Philly Joins Apple in International Protest against FBI

The Internet rights group, Fight for the Future, has organized protests Tuesday evening at Apple stores across the globe in response to a court order recently obtained by the FBI, which requires Apple to build a software “backdoor” to help them hack into any iPhone. According to the group, the FBI is essentially leveraging December’s mass shootings in San Bernardino to to push their agenda to weaken the security of all of our phones to enable more government surveillance.

Organizers have planned protests at more than 30 cities across the nation plus the U.K., Hong Kong and Germany, beginning Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. local time. Philadelphia has officially joined the movement, with a rally taking place at the Apple store at 16th and Walnut Streets.

You can read up on the details and logistics here, but the gist of it is that protesters will gather in front of the store chanting messages and holding signs or phones, computers, and tablets open to ProtestSign.org (which turns your device into a handy protest sign). It’s kind of a big deal for anyone who opposes big government and doesn’t want the FBI to be able to hack into your protected information. You can also keep up on developments on social media via the #DontBreakOurPhone hashtag.

At first I was with Trump on this and I wanted the FBI to get any info they could from the terrorists phones. But now I have to say, I am with Apple. Once they have one phone unlocked, it will only get easier to unlock others. Dont Break Our Phones!!!

Options- let’s see……get killed by terrorists or take a day off of work to show fake outrage against a government trying to get info on the terrorists trying to kill me.

If the FBI gets my bank PIN they will rob me……no.
If the FBI sees my pics they will document my crime spree….no, I don’t have a crime spree.

The FBI clearly wants to track the millions of people with iPhones….shhhhhh, I see black helicopters outside.
