Nick Fairley Not Coming to Philadelphia?

A few days ago the odds of a potential Nick Fairley deal with the Philadelphia Eagles appeared high.

Now maybe not so much, at least according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Benjamin Allbright of Mile High Sports 1340 AM tweeted Tuesday night that he believed the signing with the mammoth defensive tackle might happen “soon.”

Schefter, however, appeared on Anthony Gargano’s Morning Show for 97.5 The Fanatic Wednesday and dispelled those notions.

“I don’t think the Eagles are as in as people say,” Schefter said. “I don’t know if you’ll see that at all. We’ll find out.”

A Fairley deal would make sense, he’d be the fourth former pupil of defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz, but with limited salary space the Eagles might not have enough money to satisfy him.

The Auburn product was drafted by Schwartz with the 13th overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, but Fairley underwhelmed during his four-year stay with the Detroit Lions and spent the 2015 campaign with the St. Louis Rams. While he never lived up to the hype with the Lions, he can still be a solid rotational player and pass rusher behind the starting duo of Fletcher Cox and Bennie Logan.

Fairley has posted 14 sacks and 84 tackles over his five-year career.
