The Flyers and Penguins Will Finally Play an Outdoor Game Next Season

There have been many rumors the last few years regarding the Flyers and Penguins playing an outdoor game at Beaver Stadium, Lincoln Financial Field or Heinz Field. Earlier this year, ESPN reported that an outdoor game between the Flyers and Penguins was a virtual lock, although probably not the premiere Winter Classic matchup we all were hoping for.

The Flyers and Penguins are in a battle for playoff positioning as the Flyers have made a run the last few weeks, so it’s setting up for a pretty exciting conclusion to the season considering the two teams have three more games to play against each other this season. And next season might be even better.

Last night, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette confirmed that the Penguins will host the Flyers at Heinz Field next February, and in return the Penguins will play a future outdoors game in Philly.

The Penguins’ outdoors game against Philadelphia next season is expected to be played Feb. 18, 2017 at Heinz Field.

The date for that game, as well as other NHL outdoors events, could be confirmed and announced as early as Wednesday.
