The Sixers Are Going to Gently Ease Joel Embiid into the Mix Next Season

With many eyes focused on next year’s Sixers team as being the team to begin the turnaround, a huge piece of the puzzle still remains a question mark. Joel Embiid is currently recovering from his second surgery and rehabbing on and off the court, so it sounds like he may be ready for the beginning of next season, but there’s really nothing more than speculation about that at this point. Embiid’s health is paramount for the Sixers, and it sounds like they’re not in a rush to put him back on the court in game action any time soon. [Philly.com]

I think everybody also must understand that . . . it’s not like [Embiid] is going to come out and play 40 minutes and play 82 games,” Sixers coach Brett Brown said. “That would be naive and not true.
 
“We have to be responsible with some minute restrictions with him. You would assume that he’s not going to play back-to-back games. All those things will be determined.”

There will be a lot of debate about this one. On one hand, easing Embiid back into game action after missing two years seems like the smart option. And I’m totally fine with that, especially considering how rusty he will be on the court and the unknown of how his body will react after a game once he returns.

On the other hand, people think two years away should be plenty of time for him to come back strong after recovery and play as much as possible. I’m not down with that. So I got two words for ya:
