The Eagles Are Going after Jared Goff, According to Boomer Esiason

There are plenty of people who think the Los Angeles Rams will be drafting Jared Goff with the first overall pick in this week’s NFL draft. There are plenty of people who think the Philadelphia Eagles will be drafting Carson Wentz with the second overall pick in this week’s NFL Draft. For former NFL quarterback and current NFL analyst for CBS, Boomer Esiason, he actually thinks it’s the complete opposite.

I like Esiason as an analyst. I think he’s smart and he understands the game very well. He probably knows something we don’t. For that something to be completely against what everyone else is saying? That’s where I’m not exactly sure what to believe. Then again, we shouldn’t believe anything until we see the Rams and Eagles make their picks on Thursday night. But what fun is waiting?

I’ll tell you – it’s no fun. So it’s worth noting that Esiason, who was on WHIP Radio in Philly a few days ago with Zach Gelb, said that the Eagles were likely going after Goff instead of Wentz. [NJ.com]

The only reason I think they [moved up to No. 2] is because they (knew) Jared Goff would be there. That’s what I believe … I still think it’s going to be Wentz and then Goff. I think the Eagles would be ecstatic if that were the case.”

We’ve certainly posted many Eagles and Wentz rumblings over the last few weeks, and it seems like everybody – from the fans to the reporters to Wentz himself – is now confident the Eagles will draft him, whether for better or worse. Esiason is going out on a limb here, but I don’t see how it happens unless the Rams are fooling everyone and going to draft Wentz.

UPDATE: It’s also worth noting that Esiason and current Eagles offensive coordinator, Frank Reich, were roommates in college at Maryland. I thought I originally included that in the article, but thanks to reader OhBaldy for pointing that out, also.
