Audio: Bryan Colangelo Says ‘The Process’ Is Over, Sixers Thinking about Winning

When Sam Hinkie resigned, many were left wondering what it would mean in terms of The Process and how the Sixers would move forward. Then, it became public knowledge that Hinkie was going to be forced to share general manager responsibilities with Bryan Colangelo, the son of good ol’ Sixers’ chairman of basketball, Jerry Colangelo. The younger Colangelo already had a track record that many looked at as questionable, but because the Colangelo name is well-respected throughout the NBA, it instantly brought credibility to the organization.

I still miss Hinkie. I’m still not sure how to feel about Colangelo, but at least he hasn’t completely lost me. Yet. Hinkie put the team in the position to get the number one overall draft pick this year and Colangelo and company will reap the benefits of his work. There’s also the chance Hinkie would have traded the entire team again if he was still in place, but I digress.

Colangelo joined SiriusXM Bleacher Report Radio’s NBA Sunday Tip yesterday and talked about how the organization’s focus was now on winning and not prolonging the rebuilding process. He also mentioned Ben Simmons and the Sixers have a good relationship and. You can read the quotes below and listen to the audio. [CSN Philly]

Everybody is thinking about winning, as opposed to prolonging the rebuilding process. We’re really moving from that rebuilding and stripping down to a building process. We’re going to do things that put us in a position to win basketball games more so than collect future assets.”

“We’re going to pick a player that we think is the best fit for our team and the best piece for us to build around. I’m pretty certain that [Ben Simmons and Brandon Ingram]… see this as a pretty good situation to start their NBA career.”

“The big unknown with this organization is [Embiid], who has not played an NBA game. He certainly has the skill level, the size, the talent to potentially become a star.”

“I don’t know we’ve got the story to sell one of the key free agents this year in terms of what we want to do. But another year of taking a step forward…I think we’ll have a compelling story to sell to not just one free agent but possibly two and maybe even three — to say ‘Do you want to come in a double-max situation? Or a triple-max situation?’”
