Mark Sanchez Took a Shot at Sam Bradford and I Love It

Lots of Eagles fans think Sam Bradford is a clown. I do. You can just tell by my Twitter avatar. It seems like his old teammate and former Eagles backup quarterback, and new Denver Broncos quarterback, Mark Sanchez, thinks the same. In a press conference on Monday, Sanchez said he was “thrilled about the opportunity” the Broncos have given him and will help mentor Paxton Lynch, the future franchise quarterback [they hope, at least] of the Broncos.

Through months of speculation that the team would trade for Colin Kaepernick of the San Francisco 49ers, sign another veteran, like Brian Hoyer, or even trade for his former Philadelphia Eagles teammate Sam Bradford, Sanchez tried to act like the starter, even if that decision might not be months away.

So when the Broncos drafted Paxton Lynch with the No. 26 pick in the draft last week, Sanchez was hardly fazed. If anything, he viewed the addition of a rookie, and not a veteran, of a sign of confidence in him from his bosses, general manager John Elway and head coach Gary Kubiak.

“I’m thrilled about the opportunity,” Sanchez said Monday.

Lynch will arrive in Denver later this week for a three-day rookie minicamp, and then the quarterback competition between Sanchez, Lynch and 2015 seventh-round pick Trevor Siemian will begin in earnest when organized team activities begin later this month.

Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the Broncos are done adding quarterbacks and will head into training camp with just those three players at the position.

Unlike the situation with Sanchez’s former team in Philadelphia, where Bradford is boycotting offseason workouts after the team traded up to draft quarterback Carson Wentz at No. 2, the battle in Denver will not be contentious at the outset.

Sanchez, a first-round pick by the New York Jets in 2009, will help mentor Lynch.

“If you’re confident in your ability, you have no problem helping a guy,” Sanchez said.

Sanchez said he plans to help answer whatever questions Lynch might have about transitioning to life in the NFL, and will chip in with advice about Lynch’s on-field adjustment as well from a college system in Memphis that is far different from what he’ll be asked to learn in the NFL.

Ya see that, Sam? Sanchez views it as a confidence boost from his employers. Something you should because having a potential franchise quarterback learn the ropes of the NFL on your watch is a high honor. And, the Eagles even gave you an out after this year if you light shit on fire. Embrace that.

Sanchez’s remarks are from a guy who knows his talent level in the NFL is minimal and knows his role is to groom a franchise quarterback because he’s never going to be one. Is it throwing in the towel on a career? Not even close. Most also think Bradford throwing a fit because the Eagles drafted Carson Wentz is a testament to how much he really doesn’t like competition and would rather be “the man” somewhere else.

But, the fact of the matter is, Bradford is nowhere near “the man.” The Eagles are actually cutting him a break by announcing him as their starting quarterback. I guess being “the man” in Philly for at least one year isn’t good enough. Quick, someone get Sam a 5-year deal worth $400 billion. Maybe then the clown will be happy.
