NBA Player Reportedly Detained at Philly Airport for “Suspected Marijuana”

Philly native and current Washington Wizard Markieff Morris was reportedly detained at Philadelphia International Airport, according to John Gonzalez of Comcast Sportsnet. He was later released, according to the Police. Here are the details according to Gonzo via CSNPhilly.

Morris, who was with a party that included his mother, checked a bag for an international trip when “a suspicious item” was found in his suitcase, according to law enforcement. A secondary search of his bag revealed what law enforcement officials called “suspected marijuana.” Terminal A at Philadelphia International is overseen by Tinicum Township Police in Delaware County, not by the Philadelphia Police Department. Philadelphia airport security notified Tinicum Township Police. Morris was then taken to the Tinicum Township Police precinct for questioning. He was later released on his own recognizance. A Tinicum Township police spokesman said the investigation is ongoing.”

Markieff is one half of the Morris twins along with his brother, Marcus. Born in Philadelphia, they’re perhaps best known for playing for the Jayhawks at the University of Kansas. Markieff played for Phoenix prior to being traded to the Wizards at this year’s NBA trade deadline. The brothers were both charged with felony aggravated assault in April for an incident back in January where they were among five men that allegedly assaulted a 36-year old man at a local recreation center.

The Wizards mentioned in a statement that they were gathering more details of the incident, but they had spoken to Morris earlier in the day.
