Philadelphia Can’t Get Enough of Carson Wentz

For many Philadelphia Eagles fans, Carson Wentz has been like the child they haven’t had yet.

Especially that first one. You take all of those pictures and videos documenting your new born’s firsts. First words, first crawl, first walk, first everything.

Wentz is Philadelphia’s shiny new toy. The city has followed intensely since the Eagles traded up in the draft to get him and have been enamored by all of Wentz’s firsts. First press conference, first contract, first photo of him in Eagles green, first cheesesteak, first SI cover and first practice. There will be much more to come. He’ll be attending his first Training Camp in July, playing in his first preseason game in August and hopefully will see some action so we can see him play in his first professional game, toss his first completion, first touchdown and win his first game.

Even before all the draft shenanigans, the murmurs were going around that head coach Doug Pederson “loved” Wentz and the Eagles were going to do everything to get him. Pederson worked out six quarterbacks, including Jared Goff and Wentz, who was seen eating dinner with Eagles brass in Fargo.

WENTZ

On Friday we got to see some snippets of him actually playing football. We salivated and spent more than an ordinate amount of time watching Wentz warm up, jog, hand the ball off and make a few uneventful throws. We searched twitter to find any clip we could find, anything to get our fix.

While we have yet to officially see Wentz take the field, we have seen him take the podium and we’re quickly finding out that Wentz is a man of great character. He’s a competitor, he’s smart and says all the right things.

Another first this week, our first Sam Bradford creeper photoshop. This was outstanding.

Sunday’s baseball brawl between the Texas Rangers and Toronto Blue Jays has already triggered some social media brilliance.

In the coming weeks we’ll have even more jokes to work with. I’m waiting for the first vignette where Wentz has DirecTV and Bradford has cable.

Another first will happen today; Bradford and Wentz will meet for the first time.

Over the next few months more Wentz firsts will come as well, but over the next few years once the shiny new toy gets broken in and impatience from the fans kick in, there’s only one more first Philadelphia will be worried about.

Something the franchise has never done.
