A Weekend with U.S. Soccer

Over the past few weeks, days, months and even the last eight years, I feel as if a ton of different things have divided us as a country. It’s extremely sad. As we sit here on Flag Day, a line in our own Pledge of Allegiance states, “One nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.” There’s a key word there: Indivisible. No matter the issues, we shall always come together for the sake of our country.

This past weekend, while the U.S. men’s soccer team played in front of 51,000 plus at Lincoln Financial Field, it felt as if we were all in it together. People from all over the country and from all different religions or non-religions with all different stories represented the red, white and blue and cheered on the U.S. to a 1-0 victory over Paraguay in final group stage match for the U.S. in the 2016 COPA America tournament.

It was my first time attending a U.S. men’s soccer match, and to say it felt liberating would be an understatement. Having attended countless other sporting events, which normally pits us against other cities, I’d have to say that this was extremely different. We were one. Even people from Dallas were welcomed with open arms inside the Linc. Maybe that’s a first?

After having the chance to speak to a member from the American Outlaws’ Dallas chapter [the group of Team USA supporters is known as the American Outlaws], he told me that it “felt weird”coming to Philly but there was nothing weird when he arrived on Saturday and was surrounded by his Team USA brothers and sisters. It’s quite the experience.

Listed below are a few moments that I was able to capture from this amazing weekend. Without getting too political, maybe we should all take part in a little pro-U.S. event that we see. It will only do us good. Good luck to the U.S. Men’s National Team on Thursday!

It all started on Friday night, where I deejayed the American Outlaw Philly Chapter Block Party outside the Field House on 11th and Filbert. What a night! Supporters from all over the country rolled through and set the tone for the weekend!

The head coach for the U.S. Men’s National Team, Jürgen Klinsmann, came through the block party to give us all a little pep talk. He also requested some ACDC. Because it’s Klinsmann, I gave the crowd a double-shot and played both “You Shook Me All Night Long” and “Thunderstruck.”

After a long night of providing the sounds, I took the U.S. men’s soccer message to FOX 29, where I appear on Good Day Weekend every Saturday at 8:30 A.M. I spoke about the weekend’s festivities with my man, Bill Anderson.

The scene outside the Linc on Saturday was ELECTRIC! Red, white and blue covered the every single parking lot! Something I think that would work really well at Eagles games is The March to the Match. It was awesome.

Over 51k strong showed up to watch the match. Amazing scene all weekend long! I might head up to Seattle on Thursday! Anyone up for the road trip? Go USA!

I was there, as well. There really was nothing like it. Being able to come together as a nation at a sporting event is truly a special experience… and sharing it with my Dad and my brother was just icing on the cake.
