Catching up with the Birds: Pray for Orlando

A lot of Eagles content gets published each day, so here’s a recap of your Eagles news from this past week.

Talking about sports today feels improper.

We woke up this morning to the tragic news of the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history. Fifty were killed and 53 more were injured when Omar Mateen opened fired inside a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida early Sunday morning.

Just like all of you, I’m disgusted and heartbroken.

President Barack Obama addressed the nation for a 15th time Sunday following a mass shooting. That’s sickening to hear.  When does the madness stop?

Pray for Orlando.

On to the links:

Agholor was accused of sexual assault at Cheerleaders and Eliot Shorr-Parks of NJ.com reported that the incident was a dispute over money. Connor Barwin and Fletcher Cox released statements along with Agholor’s attorney.

Cox checked in at the NovaCare Complex Monday to get his physical prior to the mandatory three-day mini camp that began Tuesday. Doug Pederson was “just happy that he was back” and is confident a deal will get done before training camp. I delved into that earlier this week, can a deal get done prior to training camp? Cox commented on having added pressure during his contract situation. In other Cox news, he was named 49th on NFL Network’s top 100 list.

Pederson opened up about Carson Wentz during a press conference earlier this week and I loved his answer about why Wentz has been throwing a lot of wobblers during practice.

Sam Bradford is pumped about having more freedom at the line of scrimmage this year. Bradford is hoping being able to change plays will limit negative plays. The Eagles had 31 turnovers last year (third most) and a league-leading 36 in 2014.

Darren Sproles will have an “extensive” role with the Eagles this season, according to Pederson. Andy Reid loves to use his running backs in the passing game. Remember how he utilized Duce Staley and Brian Westbrook? Pederson is no different. I’m curious how this plays out.

In other Eagles news, Pederson said cornerback Leodis McKelvin has stood out the most during practice so far, Nolan Carroll talked about coming back from a broken ankle, Marcus Smith is excited about having less responsibility and a fourth former Eagle retired this offseason.
