Darren Sproles Will Have an “Extensive” Role with the Eagles This Season

It looks like Doug Pederson wants to put the swiss army knife to good use.

Take some notes Chip!

The Philadelphia Eagles head coach Pederson explained in Tuesday’s press conference that running back Darren Sproles will have an “extensive” role in the offense this upcoming season.

The soon to be 33-year-old Sproles skipped the OTAs due to trade rumors around the NFL Draft and didn’t want to report until all of that got sorted out.

Andy Reid loves to use his running backs in the passing game. Remember how he utilized Duce Staley and Brian Westbrook? Pederson is no different.

“We like to move our running backs around and he’s a guy that creates match-ups against the defense. We’re going to move him around, we’re not going to necessarily keep him in the backfield. His role will be extensive,” he said.

Reid’s teams used running backs and tight ends in the passing game more than anyone else in the NFL and this is key for the Eagles due to their lack of big-play threats at wide receiver.

Besides Terrell Owens, who was ever an elite wideout on those Reid Eagles teams? Let’s take a look at some of these guys, Charles Johnson, Na Brown, Todd Pinkston, James Thrash, Torrance Small, Dameane Douglas and Kevin Curtis.

Trash!

I don’t consider them elite. Maclin never reached 1,000 yds under Reid and I def don’t think DJax was elite. They weren’t on Owens’ level that’s for sure.
