It’s Official: Eagles Sign Fletcher Cox to Long-Term Deal

No more speculation.

No more rumors.

The seemingly never-ending contract dispute is over, Fletcher Cox is here to stay.

The Philadelphia Eagles and Cox agreed to a whopping six-year, $103 million extension Monday with $63-million guaranteed, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The guaranteed amount is the highest for a non-quarterback in NFL history.

Cox had been doing a fine job of trolling the internet this offseason with some cryptic tweets of emojis with a stop watch, but that’s no longer necessary.

He’s obviously ecstatic about his new deal.

Some of Cox’s teammates took to Twitter as well to congratulate the Pro Bowl defensive tackle.

Cox skipped the voluntary OTAs in an attempt to land a contract extension and despite numerous reports throughout the offseason saying that a deal was imminent, it never materialized.

Until now.

Cox checked in at the NovaCare Complex last Monday to get his physical prior to the mandatory three-day mini camp that began Tuesday. Eagles head coach Doug Pederson proclaimed during last Monday’s press conference that he was confident a deal would get done prior to training camp.

He was right.

The 25-year-old Cox racked up 9 1/2 sacks and 71 tackles in a breakout 2015 campaign which saw him make the Pro Bowl for the first time. He was also named a second-team All-Pro by the Associated Press for a second consecutive season.
