The Flyers Will Open the 2016-17 Regular Season Home Opener Against…

The Flyers will host the Anaheim Mighty Ducks of Los Anaheim Ducks in their home opener for the 2016-17 season, the team announced today. From their website:

The Philadelphia Flyers, in conjunction with the National Hockey League, today announced that they will take on the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday, October 20 in the club’s home opener for the 2016-17 season.

This marks the second time the Flyers have opened their home schedule against Anaheim since the Ducks entered the NHL as the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim in 1993-94. The first meeting came on Oct. 11, 1998 with the Flyers taking a 4-1 win.

This is also the fifth time that the Flyers have opened their home schedule against a Western Conference opponent since the NHL first changed the conference names in 1993-94, and first since they hosted the Vancouver Canucks in 2011-12, earning a 5-4 win.

The Flyers are 4-0-0 in their home openers against a Western Conference opponent.

With the way it’s worded, it sounds like the Flyers might open the regular season on the road… again. The regular season schedule will be released tomorrow.
