What I look for in a Cornerback:
Ball skills- Playing and attacking the football as much as a receiver would, having soft hands and the ability to knock the football away if it is uncatchable.
Instincts- Reading the routes of the receiver, keeping the quarterback in the corner of their eye and getting a jump on the ball. Cover 2 corners must be instinctive in short areas.
Closing speed- Transitioning out of the backpedal, flipping the hips and taking a beeline to the football.
Tackling- Obviously if you can’t break up a pass and the receiver catches the pass in front of you, you have to bring him down, but you also gotta be able to fill the alleys in run support.
