Philly Influencer’s Weekend Picks

Each weekend, we will post some of the most unique social and culture places to visit in addition to exciting events in and around the Philly area. We call it Philly Influencer’s Weekend Picks. 1. Academy of Natural Sciences Free Entry


Where: Academy of Natural Sciences, 1900 Benjamin Franklin Pkwy.

When: Friday, September 9th- Saturday, September 10th, beginning at 10 AM

The Academy of Natural Sciences will be offering free admission to the museum this Friday and Saturday. The all-access pass is courtesy of the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Federal Art Stamp Contest, which takes place in Pennsylvania for the first time. Several wildlife artists from around the country entered. The winning stamp and over 300 other pieces of natural art will be on display. Feel free to stop by and visit other exhibits in the illustrious museum.

2. Parks On Tap: Fairmount Water Works


Where: Fairmount Water Works, 640 Waterworks Dr.

When: Friday, September 9th & Saturday, September 10th: 1PM-11PM and Sunday, September 11th: 12PM-10PM

Parks On Tap’s weekly and popular beer garden comes to Fairmount Water Works this week. Presented by the Fairmount Park Conservatory and Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, this event hosts several activities including games and yoga classes. Bike shares are available, local craft beers, picnic tables, a lineup of food trucks, and more. There are only four more weeks of Parks On Tap. Don’t miss your chance to partake in this summer favorite.

3. Evil Genius Brew Garden


Where: Evil Genius Brew Garden, 1727 N. Front Street.

When: Friday, September 9th & Saturday, September 10th: 6PM-11PM  and Sunday, September 11th: 2PM-7PM

Ten percent of Evil Genius Brew Garden’s pop-up will go to the PSPCA (Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). The beer garden will be serving a wide selection of drinks and merchandise. The food trucks providing the cuisine will be Pbon’s Fresh Food Truck and Wheely Wheely Good. This weekends festivities include a screening of the film Zoolander, live music, and games.



4. Star Wars: The Force Awakens at Clark Park


Where: Clark Park, 4300 Baltimore Ave.

When: Friday, September 9th, 8PM

University City District hosts a screening of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Not only will attendees see a top action packed film, there will also be Star Wars games and art for sale. Raffle prizes will be given to lucky audience members including a card game set, figurines, and other items. Snacks and other treats will be available for purchase. Come visit this built-up mini amphitheater and enjoy a great storytelling film event.



5. Philadelphia Film Society: Moon Man


Where: Aquinas Center, 1700 Fernon St.

When: Friday, September 9th, activities start at 5:30PM. The film starts at 7:18PM

Philadelphia Film Society continues their Friday series “Movies on the Block” with their free screening of the animated work Moon Man. Viewers are encouraged to bring their own snacks and chairs to this community attraction. Before the film screening, there will be an art workshop for the entire family, a wellness speaking engagement, local gardens tours, face painting, live music, prizes and giveaways, food, and more. Don’t miss out on this event and look out for the Philadelphia Film Festival, presented by PFS, next month.



6. Fringe Arts Festival


Where: Fringe Arts, 140 North Columbus Boulevard.

When: Friday, September 9th-Saturday, September 24th, various times and locations

The city will be engulfed by this Fringe Arts curated seventeen day event. This creative celebration of contemporary works ranges from digital media, exhibitions, theater, and other performances. There will be over 1,000 innovative staged works and pieces on display. The artistic renderings are produced and presented by artists and acts from all around the works. The event involves and brings thousands of people to the city each year. There will be several after parties and social gatherings centered around the festivities

7. The Lumineers


Where: The Mann Center,  5201 Parkside Ave.

When: Friday, September 9th, 7:15PM

The Mann Center’s amphitheater will host folk rock band The Lumineers this Friday night. It was only a few years ago that this Ramsey, New Jersey native band had their memorable single “Hey Ho” on isolated radio repeat. It was after Philadelphia’s own WXPN presented them at their “World Cafe: Next” series that the band signed their first record label deal. By gaining early radio, chart, and Grammy nominated success, the band has quickly become a fan favorite. They will be playing memorable songs from their self-titled debut album and new tracks from their 2016 release Cleopatra.

8. Adele

Where: Wells Fargo Center, 3601 S Broad St.

When: Friday, September 9th and Saturday, September 10th, 8PM

If you’re reading this writeup and just became aware that Adele is headlining a two night residency at the Wells Fargo Center this weekend, it’s too late. This is simply your “go stand in the parking lot and beg” announcement. Tickets sold out for both concerts in a mere minute. The worldwide star and acclaimed singer will be singing many of her hits from the top-selling album of the year, 25, and her past Billboard chart smashing releases 21 and 19. Come hear, if you can gain entrance, one of the most celebrated acts in music today.



9. Bruce Springsteen: The River Tour


Where: Citizens Bank Park, 1 Citizens Bank Way.

When: Friday, September 9th, 7:30PM

They are rock legends. They are seminal musical icons. They are Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. The band has already electrified the city with their first performance at Citizens Bank Park this Wednesday by playing their longest show in U.S. history. Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band played for over four hours at that show and will display more of their greatness this Friday night at the same venue. “The Boss” will no doubt play some of his popular hits that has etched the New Jersey native in the hearts of so many. With 20 Grammy awards, a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, and several accolades, this is a life affirming show that shouldn’t be missed.

10. Kimmel Center Open House

Where: Kimmel Center, 300 S Broad St.

When: Saturday, September 10th, 10AM

The Kimmel Center hosts their second annual Open House event. There will be free performances, tours of the building, engaging activities, and more. Along with providing discounted tickets to more than 100 events performed during the season at the venue, the extravaganza will also have a panel discussion, dance lessons, and behind-the-scenes sneak peaks. This will be a great chance to get a glimpse at all that the Kimmel Center has to offer to the great city of Philadelphia.

11. Campus Philly CollegeFest

Where: Dilworth Park, 1 S 15h St.

When: Saturday, September 10th, 10AM-4PM

Dilworth Park will open its arms to the masses of college students who returned to the area to embark on their educational journey this year. There will be games, giveaways, live music, and snacks from food vendors. The most well represented local college or university will win the Campus Philly Cup. College students will be given wristbands to get free museum access and rides on the Philly PHLASH Bus Loop all day. Several local businesses and establishments are also involved with festivities and will have special offers for the students.

12. Eastern State Penitentiary Flea Market

Where: Eastern State Penitentiary, 2027 Fairmount Ave

When: Saturday, September 10th, 8AM-5PM

Philadelphia Flea Markets presents the biggest and largest outdoor flea market in Philadelphia. The event takes place this Saturday. Outlining the historic Eastern State Penitentiary, this open market will host over 150 vendors and merchants. Come shop and scurry along various aisles of personal treasures and antique keepsakes. This will be a great opportunity to peruse through thousands of items that can become staples in your home or closet.

13. Pennsylvania Coast Day


Where: Fairmount Water Works, 640 Water Works Dr.

When: Saturday, September 10th, 11AM-4PM

This is a free festival for all families and individuals who are drawn to water. There will be free boat rides and tours, row boats, swan pedal boats, and free t-shirts. A winner with the kids, face painting and arts and crafts will also highlight the celebration. Fishing and pole casting will be allowed and boat racing will also be sparking up the waters from the Delaware River to the Schuylkill waterfront. Attendees will gain free access to the Patriots & Pirates exhibit at the Seaport Independence Museum and enjoy free shuttles to the Fairmount Water Works.

14. South Philadelphia Sausage Fest

Where: Newbold Neighborhood, West Passyunk Ave at South Broad St.

When: Saturday, September 10th, 12PM-8PM

This fall craft beer and sausage culinary themed festival is a local annual favorite. A pillar of the Newbold/West Passyunk community, people come from across the city to indulge in various foods from a wide selection vendors. There are also several drink distributors and beverage options. This year’s festival will showcase 8 musical live performances, 10 local craft breweries, 10 restaurants, and other merchants.

15. Kensington Gardens Pop-Up


Where: Kensington Beer Garden, 2670 Coral St.

When: Saturday, September 10th, 5PM-10PM

The third installment of the Kensington Pop-Up Beer Garden. There will be a great number of food trucks, local beers, and fun activities. Funds and proceeds from the event will go to the Kensington Community Food Co-op. This is an all-ages gathering embraces and displays the richness and of its flourishing neighborhood. This will be a great way to enjoy the local scene and enjoy some great drinks with good people.

16. MGK Brew Blast at Battleship New Jersey


Where: Battleship New Jersey, 100 Clinton St. Camden, NJ

When: Saturday, September 10th, 1PM-5PM

102.9 WMGK welcomes all to this beer festival on Battleship New Jersey. There will be more than 50 brews, live music, and more on this iconic battleship. Entrance also allows attendees to tour the structure while sampling a fantastic lineup of drinks. Food will be available for purchase from vendors and MGK DJs will also be there to speaks on music, beers, and more. Tickets are sold out online but they will be available at the door.

17. End of Summer Music Festival at Dave & Buster’s


Where: Dave & Buster’s, 325 N Christopher Columbus Blvd.

When: Saturday, September 10th, 1PM-1AM

Dockside Bar at Dave & Buster’s will hold their 5th annual End Of Summer Music Festival. A $10 day pass gets you access to several bands including Sigourney, Hartline, John Faye Music, The Quixote Project, Lion in The Mane, and more. This is an all ages event and the venue has been a premium spot for fun this summer. There will be great food, drinks, and live music at this scenically perfect setting.

18. The Manayunk Craft Beer & Restaurant Stroll

Where: Manayunk, Main St.

When: Saturday, September 10th, 12PM-6PM

Manayunk Craft Beer & Restaurant Stroll will showcase over 15 memorable bars & culinary establishments. The excursion will have many craft beers and great food options as you take in the great weather that September has to offer. The ticket is $20 or $15 with a group. Participants will receive a Craft Beer Crawl mug, beer samples at each location, discounted brews and food, and a complimentary $50 LYFT credit. Blue, US Hotel Bar & Grill, Mad River Bar & Grill, and other restaurants are involved in the crawl.

19. Clover Market


Where: 25 W Highland Ave.

When: Sunday, September 11th, 10AM-5PM

Clover Market is a seasonal and traveling open-market. The mercantile assembly comes to Chestnut Hill this weekend. It features over 100 vendors. There you’ll find antique jewelry, vintage furniture and clothes, and art. Homemade crafts and memorable trinkets are in surplus at this community gathering. There will be food trucks, free art displays, live music, and other entertainment.

20. 10th Annual Mt. Airy Village Fair

Mt.-Airy-Village

Where: Mt Airy, Greene Street and Carpenter Lane.

When: Sunday, September 11th, 11AM-4PM

This local and communal fair seeks to make Mount Airy a shining staple of your weekend. The outdoor event will have several activities such as a dog parade, a kids ice cream eating contest, a pie eating contest, face painting, games, and a petting zoo. There will also be live musical performances and food. Several of the businesses and shops in the Mt. Airy Village will be open and serving all guest. This is a free event will food, beverages, and more available for purchase.

21. Greenfest Philly


Where: Headhouse Square, 2nd and South St.

When: Sunday, September 11th, 10AM-4PM

Greenfest Philly will be celebrating “National Beer Lovers Day” with this outdoor festival this Sunday. Presented by Toyota Hybrids, this event will provide a spectacular showing over 150 vendors, food, live musical entertainment, family friendly activities, and other activities. Attendees who ride their bikes over to the local jamboree can use the free bike valet that’s accessible to all. This is an event that attracts thousands and will provide info on how to live greener and an overall healthier lifestyle.

22. Feria del Barrio

Where: 2721 N 5th St.

When: Sunday, September 11th, 12PM-5PM

This is a massive and joyous Philadelphia celebration of Latino music, arts, and culture. Feria del Barrio bridges and links thousands of attendees of from various areas to bask in the splendor of a great people and experience some world-famous musical acts. There will be many kid friendly crafts and games, activities, and prizes. Come and eat local authentic cuisine, merchandise, and more that can be purchased from vendors and have a great time.

23. Shakespeare at The Bar at City Tap House


Where: City Tap House, 3925 Walnut St.

When: Sunday, September 11th, 7:30PM-9:30PM

For $5, all who attend this art meets booze gathering, receives a complimentary beer and a free show. If you’re a classics enthusiast and a lover of good drinks, this Sunday’s event is right up your alley. The bar will show a production of the 16th century play The Taming of the Shrew and propel it to a 21st century audience. The comedy, mixed with the fun-filled ambience, and wide selection of drinks, makes this event the perfect cocktail of humor and entertainment.

24. Center City District Restaurant Week

Where: Various locations

When: Sunday, September 11th-Friday, September 23rd, various times

Between September 11th-16th and 18th-23rd, Center City Restaurant Week will be in full swing. Several restaurants and eateries will be providing a specialized three-course lunch menu for $20 and a three-course dinner menu for $35. Some establishments participating in the cuisine series are Buddakan, R2L, Little Nonna’s, Lolita, Barbuzzo, and plenty more. Whether you crave sushi, steaming clams, vibrant tacos, or fresh pasta, there’s something for everyone. Over 100 restaurants await you in this palate pleasing Center City sensation.

25. Amos Lee


Where: Academy of Music, 240 S Broad St.

When: Sunday, September 11th, 8PM

Singer-songwriter and Philadelphia native, Amos Lee comes to the Academy of Music this Sunday night. Often musically mixing the genres of rock, soul, and strains of folk, Lee has cultivated a signature sound that has sustained his career for decades. Amos Lee has six studio albums under his belt. His most recent work Spirit, was released last month and will certainly be on full musical parade this weekend. Come see one of the city’s own and hear some great music.
