Joel Embiid Sets New Points and Minutes High in Sixers’ Loss to the Pistons

It temporarily got really quiet inside Wells Fargo Center when Joel Embiid stumbled a few steps after blocking a shot early following a whistle in the second quarter.

Thankfully JoJo was fine.

Embiid played three quarters for the first time during the preseason, finishing with 15 points and five rebounds, but the Philadelphia 76ers were routed again, this time by the Detroit Pistons 97-76 in the Sixers’ penultimate exhibition game on Saturday night.

Embiid, whose previous minutes high was 13 coming in, saw 19 minutes of action. He was 5-of-8 from the floor and 5-of-7 from the foul line, even taking some technical free throws during the third quarter. He did have seven turnovers, however, for the Sixers, who moved to 1-5 on the preseason.

Jerami Grant was the only other Sixer in double figures with 12. Dario Saric netted eight points of 3-of-7 shooting, Richaun Holmes poured in eight as well and Sergio Rodriguez added seven assists in defeat.

Let’s check out some clips.

Here’s Embiid taking Boban Marjanovic to school on the old-school three-point play.

And another angle of the play from my seat.

Embiid with a quick baseline move on Andre Drummond before finishing the reverse with the left hand, lovely!

You want to talk about high-pointing a rebound, wow! Embiid with the putback.

This was some good defense from Embiid. He kept both of his arms straight up and timed his jump perfectly. Good luck finishing over that!

I’ve seen Embiid get matched up on Kyrie Irving and John Wall in iso situations and excel. Here he is again on an island, this time against Ish Smith.

Embiid with deep post position and finishes with the soft lefty hook.

My favorite part about tonight, Embiid shooting the technical free throws.

Now onto some non-Embiid highlights.nHere’s Rodriguez with a beautiful look to a left baseline cutting Gerald Henderson for the dunk. I’ll say it again, love watching him pass the basketball!

It’s time to show Holmes some love for his defensive prowess. He did an outstanding job on Drummond on this situation.

This time we see an alter followed by a block from Holmes.

Robert Covington with the emphatic slam off the lob from Henderson.

The Sixers close preseason play Friday against the Miami Heat in South Beach.
