What’s Happening in Philly This Weekend: October 14-16

Each weekend, we will post some of the most unique social and culture places to visit in addition to exciting events in and around the Philly area. We call it Philly Influencer’s Weekend Picks. 1. Chinatown Night Market


Where: 10th St between Arch St. and Vine St.
When: Thursday, October 13th, 7PM-11PM

A week after the night market at the Navy Yard, Philadelphia Chinatown Development Corporation (PCDC) brings the great city of Philadelphia: Night Market Yè Shì. There will be sensational food, crafts, arts, live musical and dance performances, a live karate demonstration, a DJ, and other activities. The event is free to enter and has several vendors that will have plenty of cuisine and more for sale. Come to this cultural extravaganza and immerse yourself in the communal celebration.

2. Mural Arts Month: Ursula Rucker Poetry Reading, Mural Trolley Tour, Jawn Concert & Arts Festival


Where: Ursula Reading: Painted Bridge Arts Center, 230 Vine St.
Trolley Tour: Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, 128 N Broad St.
Jawn Festival: Bartrum’s Garden 5400 Lindbergh Blvd.

Mural Arts Month festivities continue this weekend throughout the vibrant city of Philadelphia. This Friday there will be an Ursula Rucker and SWOON & Friends poetry reading. This will be a stimulating night of artistic expression. Saturday, enjoy a murals trolley tour throughout the city and bask in this beautiful outdoor expanding art museum. Sunday, there will be a free concert and public gathering for all. Tickets are $5 for the poetry reading. The trolley tour is $32 for adults and $28 for seniors, children 3-12, and students.

3. Arts @ Night


Where: The Schmidt’s Commons, 1001 N 2nd St.
When: Friday, October 14th, 7PM-11PM

The Schmidt’s Commons will be hosting a night of arts and creativity this weekend. The event will have live music, various other artistic performances, and other innovative showcases. Some artist will be creating new pieces onstage on that very night. There will be fire-breathers, a DJ, a neo-burlesque troupe, and many other exciting displays. The artistic-themed night will have food and plenty of drinks available for purchase.

4. Rittenhouse Stroll


Where: Rittenhouse Square, 18th and Walnut Streets
When: Friday, October 14th, 5PM-9PM

This Friday, Rittenhouse Square will be hosting unique happy hour event. This scenic downtown area will offer several drink and meal specials for the evening. The event will highlight new and multiple of the local’s favorite restaurants in the neighborhood. There will be craft can discounts from Pilsner Urquell and “Rittenhouse Fare” culinary specials. The local gathering is free to attend but requires an online RSVP. This will be an exciting and fun-filled way to kick-start your weekend.

5. 3rd Annual Conshohocken Beer Festival


Where: A. A. Garthwaite Stadium, 198 E 11th Ave. Conshohocken, PA
When: Saturday, October 15th, 1PM-5PM

This is the third year of this Conshohocken beer blowout party and carnival. GMH Mortgage Services and The Courts at Conshohocken Plymouth Whitemarsh Rotary will sponsor this event featuring 50 craft beers from local, regional, and nationwide breweries. There will be live music, an extensive selection of food, tailgate games, and other activities. This is a rain or shine event and 100% of the revenue will go to the rotary. Tickets are $50 and $10 for designated drivers.

6. Evil Genius Brewery 5th Anniversary Party


Where: Evil Genius Brew Garden, 1727 N Front St.
When: Saturday, October 15th, 3PM-11PM

The Evil Genius Brewery is turning 5 years old. The brewery will be bringing out some favorite pours and offering some new and fresh beers for the season. There will be food trucks, a massive Jenga game, and cornhole at this rain or shine event. The following will be on tap: #Adulting, Trick or Treat, Bye Felicia, I’ll Have What She’s Having, Santa! I Know Him!, and the guest tap Jacks Cider. The event is kid and pet friendly and will certainly pack a warm and excited crowd.

7. Pour the Core: Hard Cider Festival


Where: The Navy Yard, 4747 South Broad St.
When: Saturday, October 15th, 12:30PM-4PM

This gathering of seasonal drink enthusiasts hits The Navy Yard this weekend. The 4th Annual Pour The Core: Philly offers the best in hard cider, flavored distilled beverages, and local food trucks. The Marine Parade Grounds will serve as the backdrop for this fall celebration showcasing the best in autumn-themed drink display. The event will have local favorites such as Strongbow and Ace Cider, Kurant Cider, Hardball Cider, Woodchuck Hard Cider, and more. Tickets are $45 which gets you access to the event, a 5-ounce tasting cup, and more.

8. Movies in the Garden: Jungle Book


Where: Camden Children’s Garden, 3 Riverside Dr. Camden, NJ
When: Saturday, October 15th, 6PM-10PM

The event on the Camden Waterfront is free for the city’s residents and Camden Children’s Garden season pass holders. The showing of Disney’s production, The Jungle Book (2016) will give all who attend this screening a chance to fully visualize this safari wonder. Come see this film under the stars and take in this action-filled and family-fun adventure journey this Saturday night. Tickets are $8 for general admission. Bring a blanket or chairs for your pleasure. There will be refreshments and snacks available for purchase.

9. Bloktoberfest


Where: South between Broad and 18th streets
When: Saturday, October 15th, 12PM-8PM

What happens when you merge the autumn favorite, Oktoberfest with the lively aesthetic of a pulsating and vibrant block party? You get the bash named Bloktoberfest. There will be multiple beer zones, food trucks across several areas, a kid’s zone, and more. There is a plentiful collection of beers and beverages. The fest will also have live musical performances, with groups that represent all musical genres. Tickets range between $15-25. The proceeds for the event will be given to neighborhood initiatives and endeavors.

10. Morgan’s Pier Yappy Hour


Where: Morgan’s Pier, 221 N Columbus Blvd.
When: Sunday, October 16th, 2PM-6PM

Morgan’s Pier opens its door for this PSPCA event. Tito’s Yappy Hour is a one-time only event in which 100% of the proceeds from Tito’s specialty beverage will be given to the PSPCA. The dog filled happy hour will also include an ugliest dog contest. The competition is sponsored by Unleashed by PETCO and Bow Wow Treats. The winners will receive dog prizes and swag. There will be a special dog centered cocktail menu and many other food and drink options for the animals and of course their owners. This is a tremendous opportunity to donate to a good cause at a great location.

11. YG


Where: Theater of Living Arts, 334 South St.
When: Saturday, October 15th, 8PM

California rapper YG comes to Philadelphia this weekend to take over the stage at The TLA. The Compton raised hip hop act released his lasted album Still Brazy in June this year. He has collaboration tracks with hip hop acts Drake, 50 Cent, Lil Wayne, and more. YG has released four singles from that project and began promoting the album on a tour explicitly named after one of the 2016 Presidential candidates. He’s known for his unabashed musical themes and raw storytelling that anchors his sound and accurately reflects his life.

12. East Falls Autumn Street Festival


Where: Inn Yard Park and Kelly Dr.
When: Saturday, October 15th, 11AM-5PM

The banks and lining of the Schuylkill River will be the center of this East Falls gathering. Hosted by the East Falls Fire Department and the East Falls Community Council, this event festival will have food trucks, craft vendors, live music, a kid’s zone, and a beer garden. The fire department will allow kids to explore and their firetrucks. Kids will also be allowed to try on fire-fighting equipment. There will be a smoke filled simulation for kids and adults. The replication will give attendees a firsthand chance to see what goes into a fire incident. The festival will also have prizes and giveaways.

13. Philly Cheesesteak and Food Festival


Where: Citizens Bank Park, 1 Citizens Bank Way.
When: Saturday, October 15th, 12:30PM-5PM

The Philadelphia Cheesesteak is the seminal most influential and iconic meal that has sprang from this city in its pristine history. Often falsely attempted and poorly duplicated in other cities, a good cheesesteak is a staple dish in this community. Citizens Bank Park will host over 50 vendors that will be serving cheesesteaks, hoagies, roasted pork, and other dishes. There will also be a cheesesteak food eating contest, carnival games, a craft beer garden, food trucks, local radio hosts, and a Phillie Phanatic appearance, and more. Tickets range from $20-$65.

14. HollyWoodlands Double Feature


Where: The Woodlands, 4000 Woodland Ave.
When: Saturday, October 15th, 6:30PM-10PM

This Halloween Double feature event will screen the original Ghostbusters and the iconic Halloween film, Poltergeist. There will be snacks served by PB & Jams, Lil Pop Shop’s Test Kitchen and Bakery.  Viewers are also welcomed to bring s’mores supplies and use the firepits in the area. The rain date for this event will be Sunday, October 16th. Costumes are also encouraged but it’s not a requirement to watch these great films and have a night of entertainment at this outdoor screening. Tickets are $10 for adults and $2 for children.

15. Bartrum Garden’s Harvest Fest


Where: Bartrum’s Garden, 5400 Lindbergh Blvd.
When: Sunday, October 16th, 12PM-3PM

Harvest 2016 is an annual southwest community event. This year there will be face-painting, cooking and canning workshops, boating, yoga, game, cider-pressing, and hayrides. There will also be a Neighborhood Exchange Box in which residents from the area can share what they would like to give to other local areas in Philadelphia. The notes and stories will be given to Mount Airy and other neighborhoods participating in the Reimaging the Civic Commons Initiative. The events are free all day and will offer food and drinks from vendors. The festival is the opening event for the Mural Arts Jawn Concert.

16. AIDS Walk Philly 5K


Where: The Oval, 2451 Ben Franklin Pkwy.
When: Sunday, October 16th, 9AM

This is the 3rd annual Philly AIDS walk. The 5K run will benefit advancement and progression in AIDS treatment, prevention strategies, and awareness. This motto of the effort is “Getting to Zero”. The desire for zero new infections, zero stigmas, and zero deaths is the ultimate goal that the walk embraces for all humanity. Thousands will join forces to address this epidemic that has plagued various communities for decades. The funds will go toward providing support and help for the most vulnerable and needing individuals in the community through several outreaching endeavors.

17. Bikes and Beers


Where: Yards Brewing Company, 901 N Delaware Ave.
When: Sunday, October 16th, 9AM

The third annual Philadelphia Bikes and Beers event is this Sunday. Hundreds of riders and cruisers will come together to navigate through the bustling city of Philadelphia. There will be both a 30 mile ride starting at 9AM and a 15 mile ride starting at 10:30AM. Both journeys begin at Yards Brewing Company. The routes will take riders along the beautiful banks of the Schuylkill River. Once riders return to Yards, they will receive a memorabilia pint glass, two free pints of their choosing, and get to enjoy the after ride festivities. There will be food trucks, games, and a raffle for a new bike. Proceeds will go to The Bicycle Coalition of Philadelphia.

18. Filmore Philly Heavy Sundays


Where: The Filmore, 29 East Allen St.
When: Sunday, October 16th, 12:30PM

Filmore Philly and Budweiser have teamed up to help Philadelphia Eagles Fans cheer on one of their favorite teams. The game against the Washington Redskins will be on the big screen at the concert and entertainment venue. DJ Aktive will be performing live and there will be a halftime performance by recording artist D.R.A.M. There will be food, local art, and of course plenty of Bud Heavy. This special tailgate party will be a lively and energetic way to watch the game in a great space. This will be a game watching experience like no other in the city this weekend.

19. Kongos at The Electric Factory


Where: The Electric Factory, 421 N Broad St.
When: Sunday, October 16th, 8:30PM

Radio 104.5 presents the Kongos on their “Egomaniac Tour”. This world travelled alternative rock band ignites The Electric Factory stage this Sunday. The band was born in South Africa and later studied in the United States. The band self-released two albums. After signing to Epic Records in 2014, the band re-released their second album Lunatic. This year, their third album Egomaniac was released in June. The track “Take It from Me” became the first single from the musical work. Come see this band Sunday night that fuses its precise accordion sound and signature percussions with the strength of rock music.
