What’s Happening In Philly This Weekend: November 25-27

Each weekend, we will post some of the most unique social and culture places to visit in addition to exciting events in and around the Philly area. We call it Philly Influencer’s Weekend Picks. Events Running Through Weekend:

 

1. National Constitution Center Thanksgiving


Where: National Constitution Center, 525 Arch St.
When: Friday, November 25th-Sunday, November 27th, 9AM-5PM

Thanksgiving is a family holiday that embraces the importance of community and togetherness. The celebratory day will be commemorated at the historical National Constitution Center. This weekend there will be tales of the 1621 feast in Plymouth and a presentation on the Congressional Bill of Rights. In the theme resolution that was passed in 1791, the center will be rejoicing in the foundation of this country. All programs are free.

2. Jurassic World Opening Weekend


Where: The Franklin Institute, 222 N. 20th St.
When: Friday, November 25th– Sunday, April 23rd, 9:30AM-5PM

The Franklin Institute will open a thrilling exhibit modeled after the feature film Jurassic World. The movie sequel to Jurassic Park, Jurassic World: The Exhibition!, will be a blockbuster display that will submerge and entertain spectators. The entertaining structures were made in collaboration with paleontologist Jack Horner. The prehistoric showcase will be a great and educating exhibit for you and your friends.

3. Reading Terminal Holiday Market


Where: Reading Terminal Market, 51 N. 12th St.
When: Friday, November 25th

 From Friday, November 25th through Saturday, December 31st the Reading Terminal Market will host a holiday market. There will be a terminal railroad for kids and adults. Starting at 10 a.m. people can take in a 500 square feet model railroad. There will be seventeen bustling train lines running rampant on the track. There will also be various holiday food selections for you to take home or gift to your loved ones through the holidays.

4. Blue Cross RiverRink Opening Extravaganza


Where: Blue Cross RiverRink, 101 S. Columbus Blvd.
When: Friday, November 25th– Sunday, November 27th, 11AM-1AM Friday and Saturday and 11AM-11PM on opening Sunday

The Blue Cross RiverRink opens this Friday and will be a center for holiday entertainment until Sunday, March 5th. The exciting attraction will bring several Philadelphians to the ice this winter. There will be DJ spun skate nights, beer festivals, seasonal movie nights, a winter lodge, and more. There will be several food and beverage options served at the winter lodge including Garces, Franklin Fountain, and Chickie’s and Pete’s. The skating admission is $3 and ski rentals are $10.

5. Winterfest Opening Cooper River


Where: Cooper River Park, 5300 N Park Dr. Pennsauken, NJ 08109
When: Friday, November 25th, 6PM-9PM

 Across the water, another winter gathering awaits in NJ. This Black Friday, a local favorite returns to Cooper River Park. There will be a special “Fantasy On Ice” free performances by professional skaters every Thursday and Friday at 7p.m. On Saturday performances will be at 3p.m. and 7.pm. On Sundays, the ice will come alive at 3p.m. The rink is open to the public Monday-Thursday 5p.m.-9p.m. , Friday 5p.m.-10p.m. , Saturday 12p.m.-10p.m. , and Sunday 12p.m.-9p.m. Ski rentals are $4 for all ages.

6. Into the Black at City Tap House


Where: City Tap House, 3925 Walnut St.
When: Friday, November 25th, 12PM-5PM

 There are many shades and flavors in the spectrum of dark beer. City Tap House offers a rare opportunity to sample the best in the business. From toasty, to chocolate flavored, to smooth or bold, there’s something for everyone. The $35 ticket gets you a tasting glass and 10 tokens for 10 tastes of the offered varieties. There will be seventeen options to choose from.

7. Annie Lederman


Where: Punch Line Philly,
When: Friday, November 25th, 8PM & 10:15PM & Saturday, November 26th, 7:30PM & 9:45PM

 Comedian Annie Lederman is the voice of Cheryl on Grand Theft Auto 5 and a cast member of MTV’s pop culture and commentary series Girl Code. She was co-host of E! Network’s We Have Issues and has appeared on shows such as This is Not Happening, Chelsea Lately, and more. This weekend she brings her humor and candid lines to Philadelphia. Her show ill be a sure-fire way to laugh the night away. Tickets are $20.

8. Bret Michaels

Where: Electric Factory, 421 N 7th St.
When: Friday, November 25th, 8:30PM

Even though an entire generation simply know him from the show Rock of Love, Bret Michaels will always be a important and legendary name in rock music. The Pennsylvania native and former Poison front man will jolt the Electric Factory with his show this Friday. Come hear the iconic hit maker on full display. Tickets start at $55.

9. Local Christmas Tree Lightings


When: Friday, November 25th
Conshohocken Tree Lighting: 730 Fayette St. Conshohocken, PA, 5p.m.-7p.m.

Mayor Robert Frost will be in attendance for this Christmas tree lighting. There will be several exciting and family friendly festivities for everyone.

Bethlehem Christmas Tree Lighting: Bethlehem City Hall, 10 E Church St. Bethlehem, PA 4:30p.m.

Join mayor Bob Sanchez at the 27th anniversary of this ceremony. There will be live performances, free hot chocolate and cookies, a Santa Claus appearance, a community sing-a-long, and other exciting things to do.

Kennett Square Tree Lighting: 128 E State St. Kennett Square, PA, 6:15p.m.

This annual lights parade will have floats, dance performances, music, Mr. and Mrs. Claus, a gigantic tree, a wide selection of cars, and more.

Doylestown Christmas Tree Lighting: State St. and Main St. Doylestown, PA 5:30p.m.

This is the 102nd Annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony in Doylestown. There will be a parade, food vendors, performances by the CB West Choir and the Bucks County Gilbert & Sullivan Ensemble, and more.

10. Grand Illumination at American Heritage


Where: American Heritage Credit Union, 2068 Red Lion Rd.
When: Saturday, November 26th, 6:30PM-8PM

 This Saturday at the Carriage House Branch of the American Heritage Federal Credit Union, families will come together. Under the towering and glistening 40ft Christmas tree, the local community will ring in the coming holiday season. There will be a fireworks display, performances by the Philadelphia Boys Choir and The Fife and Drums of the Old Barracks, and more fun activities.

11. Franklin Flea Holiday Market


Where: 801 Market St.
When: Saturday, November 26th, 11AM-6PM

 The beloved crafts and antiques flea market continues this week. The former Strawbridge’s building will serve as the location for several sellers and merchants. Many handmade and vintage collectibles will be available for purchase just in time for the holiday.  Come and see what gems you can find.

12. Philadelphia Vegan Pop Flea Holiday Market


Where: Friends Center, 1501 Cherry St.
When: Saturday, November 26th, 12PM-4PM

 If you’re a vegan or don’t mind the savory products that comes from the lifestyle, this event is for you. Saturday evening many will come together for some holiday snacking and exciting festivities. There will be several vendors selling treats and gifts for all. Over 20 vegan friendly businesses and organizations will be represented.

13. 23rd Street Armory Winter Beer Fest


Where: 23rd St Armory, 22 N 23rd St.
When: Saturday, November 26th, 4:30PM-9PM

 The 23rd Street Armory will host this Winter Beer Fest this Saturday. Here you’ll find a great selection of winter ales and seasonal flavors. Over 100 beers from around the world will be on full display and up for tasting. From spiced ales, double and triple IPAs and imperial stouts, and to strong and bold offerings, this event has it all. Tickets are $40.

14. Morris Arboretum’s Holiday Railroad


Where: Morris Arboretum of University of Pennsylvania, 100 E. Northwestern Avenue
When: Saturday, November 26th, 1PM-3PM

The holiday garden and winter railroad has finally come back to the Morris Arboretum at the University of Pennsylvania. Each Friday through December 30th, there will be a “Friday Night Lights” event that will ignite your face with a smile. There will be warm beverages for sale and snacks. The Pennsylvania Ballet’s Sugar Plum Fairy and Mouse King from the production of The Nutcracker will make appearances.

15. Jazz at the Historic Met Pop Up Concert


Where: Metropolitan Opera House (Philadelphia), 858 N Broad St.
When: Saturday, November 26th, 7PM

 Jazz Lives Philadelphia Presents: Jazz at the Met. The Metropolitan Opera House of Philadelphia will embrace jazz lovers from across the city on this special night. The Oscar Hammerstein I constructed building has been around since 1908. This Saturday night there will be a free general admission  jazz performance including Grammy nominated acts and the best in the jazz world. VIP seating is available for purchase.

16. A Christmas Carol at Walnut Street Theatre


Where: Walnut Street Theatre, 825 Walnut St.
When: Saturday, November 26th, various times

Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol will be brought to life at the Walnut Street Theatre this season. The holiday classic telling the story of Ebenezer Scrooge’s restless night of discovery is a must see. This heartwarming and engaging tale is a special performance treat for the entire family. Come see this hour-long adaptation and see the full range of these great artists.

17. Manayunk Small Business Saturday and Tree Lighting


Where: Main St. Manayunk, PA
When: Saturday, November 26th, 9AM-5PM

 This Saturday will be “Small Business Saturday” or as Mayor Jim Kenney will hashtag, #ShopSmall, throughout the entire city. Several small businesses will have great discounts and deals for the eager holiday shoppers. Manayunk will take part in this commerce tradition. The area will also light a 35 foot Christmas tree in Canal Park. The area will be booming. Come see all that it has to offer.

18. A$AP Ferg


Where: Theater of Living Arts, 334 South St.
When: Saturday, November 26th, 8:30PM

 Harlem rapper A$AP Ferg is more than just a rapper from famed group A$AP Mob. He has a clothing and jewelry line and is a visual artist. This year he released his solo project Always Strive and Prosper. The  album, released in April, exploded onto the scene with the hit lead sing “New Level.” Hip Hop fans will be in full attendance at this musical act’s brazen and energetic show.

19. Philadelphia Holiday Celebration


Where: Philadelphia City Hall, 1401 JFK Blvd.
When: Saturday, November 26th, 4PM-6PM

 This will be the official ceremony for the Christmas Village and the stunning ringing in of the Christmas season in the great city of Philadelphia. There will be events throughout the entire weekend in this area. There will be a kids corner, Santa, live musical performances, several merchants, and a concluding Christmas tree lighting that will dazzle.

20. Santa’s Parade and Block Party


Where: Front St and Veteran Square.
When: Sunday, November 27th, 3PM-5PM

This fun-filled and family friendly event is a pillar in the Media, PA community. There will be a holiday Santa parade and block party. There will be food vendors, music, and several traditional games that will remind you why this season is the most cherished. There will also be a fun run and walk for all ages. The run is free to enter but participants are asked to bring a canned good for the needy.

21. Bilal

Where: World Live Café, 3025 Walnut St.
When: Sunday, November 27th, 8PM

 Neo Soul and R&B act Bilal will fill your night with rhythmic splendor and smooth vocals this weekend. Whether pulling from his earlier work or his most current album, In Another Life, the acclaimed act will have the World Live Café rocking. A chance to hear the Philadelphia native’s signature sound and award-winning catalogue will be a highlight of the weekend.

22. Sabrina Carpenter


Where: The Foundry at The Fillmore, 29 East Allen St.
When: Sunday, November 27th, 7PM

American singer-songwriter Sabrina Carpenter graces the stage of The Foundry at The Fillmore this Saturday night. Known for her starring role on the Disney Channel’s Girl Meets World, Carpenter has recently ventured her talents to the arena of music. This year she released the album EVOLution. This will be a great chance to see a rising young act in pop music.

23. Niykee Heaton


Where: Theater of Living Arts, 334 South St.
When: Sunday, November 27th

 Singer Niykee Heaton has been writing music since the age of 5. The up and coming pop and R&B act began to cultivate a buzz and fan following the contemporary way, through her YouTube channel. Now primed for commercial success, she brings her “The Centerfold Tour” to Philadelphia. Come see this artist who mixes sultry sounds, smooth vocals, and raw lyricism.

24. Andra Day


Where: Union Transfer, 1026 Spring Garden St.
When: Sunday, November 27th, 7PM

 This extremely talented writer, jazz, R&B, and  soul vocalist’s show will be one of the best things happening in the city this weekend. The San Diego “Rise Up” 2016 Grammy nominee will be singing several songs from her fantastic debut work Cheers to the Fall. Opening for her will be Beyoncé protégés, young, promising, and sister duo Chloe X Halle. Audience members may be enamored with Day’s electic clothing but its her voice that they wont forget.
