Connor Barwin Said He Would Take a Pay Cut to Stay with the Eagles

Before the Eagles’ season finale against the Cowboys on January 1, a lot of questions were already being asked about who would return to the team in 2017 and who would be cut, likely for performance and monetary reasons.

Barwin joined the Breakfast on Broad crew this morning and said that he’d take a pay cut to remain an Eagle next season.

“I’d like to be back here. Obviously, I like playing in Philadelphia. But it’s up to the coaches and management to decide. The season’s over now and so now they’ll go back and they’ll review and they’ll put their plan together and we’ll find out in the next couple months. I mean, free agency starts in March, I think. And I think they’ll probably have an idea of what their plan is with me by sometime in March. And that’s when I expect to kind of know what we’re gonna do.

“It was frustrating [this year] for me not to have the production that I’ve had in the past. It was frustrating for me not to be in the playoffs again this year. In my career as a starter, I’ve been in the playoffs every year except for the last three years. That was even more frustrating.

“Yes, I would take a pay cut. My plan is to stay here. People talk about my contract and, you know, I like to think I’m a reasonable person and I feel like I’ll work with the Eagles and we’ll restructure and make some kind of deal that works for everybody.”

Would you want the Eagles to bring Barwin back on a lesser deal? Is he completely shot at this point?

Yeah I mean if he takes a pay cut then keep him for sure. But you can’t keep him with a 7.5 million dollar hit this year. Not for him anyway
