What’s Happening In Philly This Weekend: Jan 13-15

Each weekend, we will post some of the most unique social and culture places to visit in addition to exciting events in and around the Philly area. We call it Philly Influencer’s Weekend Picks. Events Running Through the Weekend:

1. Benjamin Franklin Birthday Independence Visitor Center


Where: Independence Visitation Center, 1 N. Independence Mall W.
When: Friday, January 13th, 11AM

Let’s face it, in the city of Philadelphia, Benjamin Franklin is inescapable. From the various structures erected in his honor, to the parkway named after him, and to the city’s design,  he’s everywhere. The Independence Visitation Center will be celebrating the national historical and political figure’s birthday this weekend. Franklin’s311th birthday will have meet and greets, tours, a public procession, a fun zone, and more.

2. Zombie Skate at Rothman Rink


Where: Dilworth Park, 1 S. 15th St.
When: Friday, January 13th, 7PM-11PM

Dilworth Park will be celebrating Friday the 13th with this spooky event. Come to the ice rink on the outer edge of City Hall to have a frighteningly good time. The park asks guests to come dressed as zombies if they dare. There will be a special prize given to the best costume. There will be a giveaways and zombie themed food and beverages. The skating prices will be the same as the usual Rothman Rink fees and skate rentals are available.

3. Films at AAMP: The 13


Where: African American Museum in Philadelphia, 701 Arch St.
When: Friday, January 13th, 6:30PM

The African American Museum in Philadelphia invites you to join in and enjoy this screening event. This is a free event that you only need to RSVP for. This critically acclaimed and nominated documentary The 13th will be screened as part of the MLK Weekend Celebration. There will be a panel discussion after the feature. The documentary highlights the repercussions and ingrained issues that have sprawled across America. It examines mass criminalization,  the prison system, and more.

4. Philadelphia Home Show


Where: Pennsylvania Convention Center, 1101 Arch St.
When: Friday, January 13th, 11AM-9PM, Saturday, January 14th, 10AM-9PM, & Sunday, January 15th, 10AM-6PM

This domestic and house themed showcase is hosted by Murphy Beds. It’s the city of Philadelphia’s ultimate design, landscaping, building, and interiors event. Whether you’re ready for a complete home makeover, have a small project in mind, or simply love HGTV, this event is for you. There will be various products and company’s to compare and contrast, furnishing, gardening, architecture, and much more. Tickets are $10 for adults.

5. Big Philly Beer Fest


Where: Pennsylvania Convention Center, 1101 Arch St.
When: Friday, January 13th & Saturday, January 14th, 7PM

For a price range starting from $45 and ending  at $75, you can taste over 350 beers this weekend. The Pennsylvania Convention Center will open its doors to over 125 breweries for the 3rd year of this gathering. There will porters, stouts, pilsners, ales, IPAs, and other beers to choose from. The festival will have the best in local and international beer. Nick’s Roast Beef, The Cow and the Curd, and Waffle Wedges will be providing great dishes for this event as well.

6. Cirque Eloize: Saloon


Where: Merriam Theater, 250 S. Broad St.
When: Friday, January 13th & Saturday, January 14th, various times

The thematic and entertaining Cirque Eloize presents this thrilling acrobatic display. This high energy performance has a Wild West theme. The stage explores the years in which the United States of America was expanding to the  rustic frontier. The cast illustrates a town coming to life right before your eyes. You will hear great folk songs, see fantastic fiddlers, and be amazed by the soaring performers.  Come and see this visual and rhythmic display of acrobatic storytelling.

7. Hornets at Sixers


Where: Wells Fargo Center, 3601 S Broad St.
When: Friday, January 13th, 7PM

The Philadelphia 76ers just delivered one of their most thrilling wins of the season Wednesday night. The team looks to continue their winning ways at they take on the Charlotte Hornets. Come see Joel Embiid, Nerlens Noel, and company as they try to make is three games in a row. The Wells Fargo Center will be rocking yet again this Friday night. Bring your fandom, wear your best jersey, and prepare to cheer on your home team. Drinking Shirley Temples are not required.

8. Michael Yo at Punch Line Philly


Where: Punch Line Philly, 33 E Laurel St.
When: Friday, January 13th, 8PM & 10:15PM, Saturday, January 14th, 7:30PM & 9:45PM

Michael Yo can be seen on CBS’ The Insider and guest co-hosting The Talk from time to time. The celebrity news and gossip anchor is also a known comedian. Yo was previously a comedic panelist for seven seasons on Chelsea Lately and he is headlining his on national tour “Hot Mess Comedy”. This entertainment anchor comes to Philadelphia this weekend. 9. Pancakes and Booze at Underground Arts


Where: Underground Arts, 1200 Callowhill St.
When: Friday, January 13th, 8PM

This is considered Philadelphia’s largest underground art show. There will be over 75 emerging and known artists with their work on full display. The event will have live body painting, live canvas painting, a free pancake bar, and more. This is a 21 and older event. Tickets purchased online and in advance are $10. Here you’ll find various mixed media, photography, sculptress, drawings, and other artistic renderings. There will also be plenty of drinks, as the title states.

10. Bill Graham Rock and Roll Revolution National Jewish Museum


Where: The National Museum of American Jewish History, 101 S. Independence Mall E.
When: Saturday, January 14th, 7PM & 10PM

The National Museum of Jewish History has been displaying the exhibit Bill Graham and the Rock & roll Revolution since mid September. This weekend the glorious feature comes to an end. Celebrated as one of the most renown concert promoters in history, Billy Graham has helped launch a multitude of rock & roll acts through the years. This Friday night, the closing event for this multi-month jamboree will be a cabaret experience like no other. Tickets are $30.

11. A Snowy Bowie Skate


Where: Blue Cross RiverRink, 101 s Christopher Columbus Blvd.
When: Saturday, January 14th, 12PM

As Philly Loves Bowie Week continues, the Blue Cross RiverRink continues the Starman’s celebration. The City of Brotherly Love’s fun rink will have something for each Bowie enthusiast in the area. From 12 p.m. – 5 p.m. there will be a family themed events. There will be face painting, games, and a screening of Jim Henson’s Labyrinth in the Rothman Lodge. In the evening, there will be Bowie concerts highlighted on screens, themed cocktails, and a DJ spinning Bowie beats until midnight.

12. Americas’ Got Talent Casting


Where: Pennsylvania Convention Center, 1101 Arch St.
When: Saturday, January 14th and Sunday, January 15th , 9AM-9PM

The hit television broadcast America’s Got Talent will be holding live auditions in Philadelphia this Saturday. Come try out for the twelfth seasons of the highly rated and career making series. These open call auditions will give you a chance to demonstrate the full range of your talent and take a step towards living your dream. This is a two day event that will allow the network to pick between the mass amount of talent that the city has to offer.

13. Penguins vs Flyers Alumni Game


Where: Wells Fargo Center, 3601 S Broad St.
When: Saturday, January 14th, 7PM

The Philadelphia Flyers and the Pittsburg Penguins will be hosting an official alumni game this Saturday. There will be representatives from several eras of each franchise’s rich tradition and history. The game will feature Bob Clarke, Eric Lindros, John LeClair, Reggie Leach, Tim Kerr, Danny Briere, Simone Gagne, and many more. This will be a fun and thrilling event that continues the celebration of the Flyers 50th year.

14. Bruce Bruce, Ricky Smiley, and Loni Love


Where: Tower Theater, S 69th St. Upper Darby, PA
When: Saturday, January 14th, 8PM

The Tower Theater will be hosting some great entertainers and comedians this weekend. Hilarious stand-up acts and film personalities Bruce Bruce, Ricky Smiley, and Loni Love bring hard-hitting, raw, and gut-busting comedy to the stage. Bruce Bruce was a pillar on BET’s ComicView and has done comedic tours for years. Ricky smiley hosts a nationally syndicated radio show Ricky Smiley Morning Show, Loni Love currently hosts The Real.

15. Radio 104.5 Winter Jam


Where: Xfinity Live!, 1100 Pattison Ave.
When: Sunday, January 15th, 12PM

Local station Radio 104.5 presents this union of music and entertainment. The Radio 104.5 Winter Jam (#1045WinterJawn) will feature Grouplove, Phantogram, Capital Cities, Judah & The Lion, Andorra, and more. There will be two stages available to attendees. There will be a Miller Lite beer garden serving specialty cocktails and several other beverages. Come hear from River North, LP, Civil Youth, and others at this fantastic musical event.
