2017 NFL Draft Preview: Our Top 5 Tight Ends

It’s not a position of need for the Philadelphia Eagles, but this year’s tight end class is deep.

O.J. Howard is at the top of the class and don’t be fooled by his numbers at Alabama, the guy is a flat-out stud. He never recorded more than 602 yards receiving in a season and is coming off a year where he caught 45 passes for 595 yards and three touchdowns, but the Crimson Tide underutilized him due to their scheme. They just don’t use their tight ends. He’s a superb athlete who possess soft hands and run-after-the-catch ability. You can also line him up everywhere.

The Eagles need to surround Carson Wentz with weapons and some have speculated that if Howard falls to No. 14 that they should consider drafting him, but I’m not drafting a tight end at that spot. You signed Zach Ertz to a massive extension last offseason, so you already have money tied up to the position. You also have depth on the roster with Brent Celek and Trey Burton.
