Sidney Jones Might Wind up Being a Steal for the Eagles in the 2nd Round

Cornerback was undoubtedly the biggest position of need for the Philadelphia Eagles heading into the 2017 NFL Draft and they just took their first one.

And if he can successfully come back from his Achilles injury, Sidney Jones might wind up being one of the steals of the NFL Draft.

As tantalizing as it might’ve possibly been for Joe Douglas and Howie Roseman to pass on explosive running back Joe Mixon, the Eagles needed a cornerback and didn’t want to wait until the third round. Jones was considered to be the No. 2 cornerback of the class prior to his freak injury at his Pro Day.

Since the Eagles aren’t ready to contend right now, the injury didn’t really change Jones’ value that much to me. Reports say that he could return to action in September, but Achilles injuries are tough to bounce back from and I don’t think we’ll be able to properly evaluate Jones until year two.

Jones is physical and going to press you. He didn’t allow a single touchdown last season and posted nine interceptions during his career. He attacks the football when it’s in the air, which reminds me and a lot of other evaluators of Marcus Peters.

You can check out my initial reaction to the pick below.
