The Eagles Are KILLING the Draft So Far … Literally and Figuratively

Philadelphia has set the precedent when it comes to future NFL Drafts.

The aesthetics have been amazing and 100,000 people jam-packed the Benjamin Franklin Parkway to witness the majestic spectacle when it commenced on Thursday night.

I’ve never seen anything like it — and to think that some guy at Philly Mag didn’t want the draft here? What’s wrong with our media today?!

PLEASE BRING THE DRAFT BACK AGAIN!!!

So not only is Philly killing the draft as the host, Joe Douglas and Howie Roseman have been getting great value for the Eagles at great positions of need. While the first round gets all of the attention and is the glitz and glamour of the event, the second, third, and fourth rounds are where you build your franchise.

The Eagles desperately needed cornerbacks heading into the week … they got a pair of really good ones in the second and third rounds.

Washington’s Sidney Jones was a top-15 talent and considered by many to be the No. 2 cornerback of the class before an Achilles injury at his Pro Day saw his stock fall. He was the seventh cornerback taken off the board. Here were the others taken before him just so we can remember the list one day.

  • NO – Marshon Lattimore (11th overall)
  • Bal – Marlon Humphrey (16th overall)
  • Ten – Adoree Jackson (18th overall)
  • Oak – Gareon Conley (24th overall)
  • Buf – Tre’Davious White (27th overall)
  • GB – Kevin King (33rd overall)
  • Phi – Sidney Jones (43rd overall)

Here was my initial reaction of the Jones selection.

I started with Jones because I liked that pick better than the Derek Barnett one in the first round, but the selection looks a lot better now because of how the draft has played itself out. Barnett was the safe pick, he’s going to get after the quarterback, which is going to help the secondary. The Bitter Birds had the live reaction of the selection on Thursday.

The Eagles then took another cornerback in the third round in Rasul Douglas of West Virginia. Due to the depth of the cornerback class, Douglas has the value of essentially a second-rounder.

So in the first three rounds, the Eagles have gotten the value of two top-15 prospects and a second.

Yea, Philly is KILLING the draft all the way around.

BRING IT BACK!
