What’s Happening in Philly This Weekend: April 28-30

Each weekend, we will post some of the most unique social and culture places to visit in addition to exciting events in and around the Philly area. We call it Philly Influencer’s Weekend Picks. 1. NFL Draft


Where: Ben Franklin Pkwy.
When: Thursday, April 27th-Saturday, April 29th

Philly influencer  recently highlighted all of the NFL parkway festivities. The NFL Draft will be the main attraction in the city this weekend. There will be several sports, family, and communal activities going on each day. Be sure to download the mobile pass to get on the parkway and checkout the rundown of late night parties for each night.

2. Penn Relays


Where: Franklin Field, 235 S. 33rd St.
When: Thursday, April 27th-Saturday, April 29th

Not to be outdone by the NFL Draft, the historic Penn Relays will also take place this weekend. This is the oldest and largest track competition in the United States. In the 123rd year, come see over 15,000 participants duel it out for supremacy on the track. There will be a multitude of universities and countries represented at this major sporting event.

3. Philly Tech Week


Where: Various locations
When: Friday, April 28th-Saturday, May 6th

Philadelphia Tech Week ignites this Friday and brings all the best minds in science to the Greater Philadelphia region. Presented by Comcast, the 7th year of this event will have a mayoral tech town hall, several innovative speakers, and plenty of panel discussions. If you have a chance to stop by you may see the the future of technology and hear from the best engineers in the field.

4. The Marriage of Figaro


Where: Academy of Music, 240 S. Broad St.
When: Begins Friday, April 28th and ends Sunday, May 7th

The Academy of Music will bring one of Mozart’s most famous works to life for the next several days. This complex and layered comedy is full of surprises, intrigue, and laughter. Come hear this fantastic and legendary score and see the greatness of this bizarre love story unfold.

5. JoJo Mad Love Tour


Where: The Trocadero Theatre, 1003 Arch St.
When: Friday, April 28th, 8PM

Pop and R&B singer JoJo took several years off to create her new album. The talented singer takes over The Trocadero Theater this Friday night to promote her new album Mad Love. The “F-k Apologies” singer brings a signature musical style full of enchanting vocals and a seasoned stage presence.

6. Darius Rucker


Where: The Fillmore Philadelphia, 29 E. Allen St.

When: Friday, April 28th, 8PM

Another concert to add to your Friday night lineup is Darius Rucker at the Fillmore. The Grammy award-winning singer found critical acclaim and early success with his band Hootie & The Blowfish. Now steering a solo career, Rucker has released six studio and has cemented himself as a powerful force in the world of country music.

7. Go West! Craft Fest


Where: The Woodlands, 40th & Woodland St.
When: Saturday, April 29th, 11AM-5PM

The Go West! Craft Fest returns to The Woodlands this Saturday. There will be home wares, artistic and colorful prints for sale, stationary, ceramics, collectibles, and more. This will be a unique opportunity to get some beautifully crafted and one-of-a-kind handmade pieces.

8. Springfest Live!


Where: Xfinity Live! 1100 Pattison Ave.
When: Saturday, April 29th, 3PM-7PM

Entertainment hub Xfinity Live! brings Springfest Live! back to the city this weekend. There will be live bands playing music all day. You’ll have the ability to sample over 175 beers at this event. There will also be games, contests, giveaways, food tucks, and plenty of other cocktails.

9. 3rd Annual Philly Margarita March


Where: Fox & Hound, 1501 Spruce St.
When: Saturday, April 29th, 12PM-10PM

Speaking of cocktails, one of the most popular drinks in the world will be getting its own celebration this Saturday. This festive margarita tasting tour will take you to some of the best venues in the city. This event will get you ready and primed for the Cinco de Mayo early. Tickets are $55.

10. Center City Jazz Festival


Where: Various locations
When: Saturday, April 29th, 1PM-7PM

The sixth annual Center City Jazz Festival will bring vintage sounds to contemporary crowds all throughout the city. As a special part of Philadelphia Jazz Appreciation Month, guests will get to hear from over 20 live bands at various locations. Come stop by these special six hours in musical heaven in you get a chance.

11. Philadelphia Science Festival Carnival


Where: Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing, 101 s. Columbus Blvd.
When: Saturday, April 29th, 10AM-4PM

The Philadelphia Science Festival has been hosting several events through the city for the past week. This Saturday, the closing celebration for the 10-day soiree will be at Penn’s Landing. There will be several nonstop experiments, family-friendly activities, live zoo animals, games, musical entertainment, and more.

12. 19th Annual Manayunk Tacos, Tequila, and Tunes Festival


Where: Manayunk Brewery & Restaurant, 4120 Main St.
When: Saturday, April 29th, 1PM-5PM

In its 19th year, the Manayunk Tacos, Tequila, & Tunes Craft Beer Festival remains one of the areas treasures. Combining the great essentials of life, this event will let you taste over 70 beers and have several tequila optionhs. Deb Callahan will be the live musical entertainment. Bring your friends and your love ones to Manayunk this weekend.

13. Sprung! on South Street West


Where: South Street West
When: Saturday, April 29th, 2PM-7PM

The masses have come together to organize this local and much-needed South Street pub crawl. Tickets for this event are just $5. All who take part in the crawl will get access to several drink specials at many establishments including Jet Wine Bar, The Cambridge, Lou Bird’s, and many other places. You’ll also get discounts at many participating corridor retailers as well.

14. The Revolution


Where: Theater of the Living Arts, 334 South St.

When: Saturday, April 29th, 9PM

Prince Rogers Nelson, better known by the singular phrase Prince, will never be forgotten. His masterful band mates The Revolution have been touring the country to perform several hits such as “Kiss”, “When Does Cry”, “Baby I’m A Star”, and many more. The Theater of the Living Arts will be full of emotion and great music this Saturday night as this iconic group serenades the crowed with legendary songs.

15. Emily King


Where: Union Transfer, 1026 Spring St.
When: Saturday, April 29th, 7PM

Grammy-nominated R&B and soul singer Emily King has toured with Sara Bareilles, headlined her own tour, and recently announced she’ll be hitting the road with the Alabama Shakes. Last year King, released The Switch (Deluxe Edition). Come hear several beautiful tracks from that album and take in the sound of this vocally gifted songstress.

16. 21 Savage and Young M.A.


Where: The Fillmore Philadelphia, 29 E. Allen St.
When: Saturday, April 29th, 8PM

The Monster Outbreak Tour is a rotating and traveling concert series that features up and coming musical acts from various genres. This Saturday rapper 21 Savage and “Ooouuu” lyricist Young M.A. will be highlighted on The Fillmore Philadelphia stage. This hip hop concert will certainly draw a high energy audience and be a true crowd pleaser.

17. Flavors on the Avenue Festival


Where: East Passyunk Avenue
When: Sunday, April 30th, 12PM-5PM

This delicious street festival will align East Passyunk Avenue with so many savory items. The culinary celebration will have the participation of almost 30 eateries and cafés. From pork buns, to Mozzarella pizza, to banana and caramel crepes, this mouth-watering event will satisfy all your needs.

18. Fairmount Avenue Arts Crawl


Where: 25th and Fairmount Ave.
When: Sunday, April 30th, 12PM-4PM

This free annual indoor and outdoor arts crawl will feature over 40 exhibits. Here you’ll see talented, groundbreaking, and creative artist from each medium. The Fairmount Arts Crawl will have family craft making tutorials, face painting, sidewalk chalk displays, and other activities.

19. Philadelphia Real Ale Invitational


Where: Yards Brewery, 901 N. Delaware Ave.

When: Sunday, April 30th, 1PM-5PM

Yards Brewery will be hosting its 10th Annual Real Ale Invitational this Sunday. This rain or shine event will have live music and plenty of food. Over 60 cask-conditioned beers from many breweries around the globe will be featured. Beer is included in the $55 regular admission ticket.

20. Independence Beer Garden


Where: Independence Beer Garden, 100 S. Independence Mall West
When: Open through the season

The Independence Bar Hall re-opned this week. The 20,000 square-foot festive beer garden is nestled and adjacent to the Liberty Bell and Independence National Historic Park. The park has over 40 beers on tap and utilizes a rustic and industrial decor. Stop by this Spring and Summer staple Sundays-Tuesays at 11:30 am-10pm, Wednesdays & Thursdays at 11:30am-11pm, and Friday & Saturday at 11:30am-12am.
