What’s Happening in Philly This Weekend: July 9-11

Each weekend, we will post some of the most unique social and culture places to visit in addition to exciting events in and around the Philly area. We call it Philly Influencer’s Weekend Picks. Events Running Through the Weekend

1. First Friday in Old City


Where: Various locations
When: Friday, July 7th

The first Friday of each month an amazing event takes over the Old City area of Philadelphia. The restaurants, galleries, studios, and other merchants in the vicinity open their doors. There are also several events like movie screenings, furniture shows, and art displays.

2. Vans Warped Tour


Where: BB&T Pavilion, 1 Harbour Blvd. Camden, NJ
When: Friday, July 7th, 12:30PM

The Camden waterfront will be rocking this Friday when the Vans Warped Tour comes to town. This annual alternative rock and electronic festival has a lineup that includes Hawthorne Heights, Futuristic, Attila, CKY, Jute Vera, and more.

3. Hamlet


Where: Laurel Hill Cemetery, 3822 Ridge Ave.
When: Friday, July 7th-Saturday, July 8th

REV Theatre Company brings an old Shakespeare classic to life in the most unusual of settings. The New York based company is raising the stake of the tragedy and revamping it under a contemporary lens. Come see this great work of love, loss, and revenge this Friday.

4. Dockside Comedy Series


Where: Dockside Bar at Dave & Buster’s, 325 N. Columbus Blvd.
When: Friday, July 7th, 8PM

Dave & Buster’s Dockside Bar will be continuing their series of comedy events this weekend. The standup showcase includes acts such as Fred Rubino, Andy Julia, and Ron Kelly. This will be a surefire way to get some laughs this Friday night.

5. Chris Kattan


Where: Punch Line Philly, 33 E. Laurel St.
When: Friday, July 7th, 8PM & 10:15PM, Saturday, July 8th, 7:30PM & 9:45PM

Speaking of laughs, Punch Line Philly always has the best way to get them daily. This weekend the comedy venue will host SNL alum and actor Chris Kattan. Kattan is known for his character work and wide range of roles in several films.

6. Mitski


Where: Union Transfer, 1026 spring Garden St.
When: Friday, July 7th, 7:30PM

Singer-songwriter Mitski will be performing a concert at the music venue Union Transfer this Friday night. The New York native’s 2016 album release Puberty 2 was the owner several great reviews including Rolling Stone Magazine’s which named it one of the top albums of the year.

7. Mad Decent Block Party


Where: Festival Pier at Penn’s Landing, 601 N. Columbus Blvd.
When: Friday, July 7th, 5PM

Anytime you name something “mad decent” its bound to be sort of good. With a lineup that includes Diplo, 4B, and  Flosstradamus this concert seems primed to live up to the name. The Festival Pier will have droves of fans coming out to party the night away this Friday.

8. Phillies Gameday Party


Where: XFINITY Live!, 1100 Pattison Ave.
When: Saturday, July 8th, 3PM

Earlier in the day, XFINITY Live! will be hosting The Bull & The Boys Hatfield BBQ Battle from 11AM-2PM. Later in the afternoon there will be a Phillies Gameday event that will have Phillies alumni, games and prizes, drinks, and more before the Phillies take on the Padres.

9. Second Saturday Festival


Where: Market Square Park, 5400 Germantown Ave.
When: Saturday, July 8th, 12PM-8PM

Germantown has always been an area of the city with a rich tradition and a feeling of a collective community. The neighborhood has been presenting a Second Saturday Festival all summer long. There will be dances, music performances, food, drinks, and so many more activities.

10. Puebla FC at Club America 


Where: Talen Energy Stadium, 1 Stadium Dr. Chester, PA
When: Saturday, July 8th, 6PM

Talen Energy Stadium will be the host of this Tour Aguila soccer match. This sporting event boasts one of the most seasoned CONCACAF Champions League clubs. Club America is owner of 12 Liga MX titles. This will be a great display of skill and sportsmanship.

11. Movies at Franklin Square


Where: Franklin Square, 200 N. 6th St.
When: Saturday, July 8th, 7PM-11PM

Franklin Square has one of the most lively areas to have fun with your entire family this summer. From its carousel to mini-golf area, this park provides amusement to all who come out. This Saturday night there will be a screening of the film The Secret Life of Pets.

12. Rakim & Ghostface


Where: Electric Factory, 421 N. 7th St.
When: Saturday, July 8th, 7PM

The Electric Factory will be the place to be as hip hop legends Rakim and Ghostface take the stage this Saturday night. They’ll be joined by Philly’s own Peedi Crack, Sunwun, and The Last Emperor. Proceeds from the concert will benefit the Universal Street Academy.

13. Charlie Wilson


Where: The Mann Center, 5201 Parkside Ave.
When: Saturday, July 8th, 8PM

It’s fitting that one mention of legends is followed by another. R&B crooner and vocalist Charlie Wilson will be serenading The Mann Center audience this weekend. The amphitheater will be filled with adoring fans waiting to hear one of the signature voices in music.

14. Hispanic Fiesta


Where: Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing, 101 s. Columbus Blvd.
When: Saturday, July 8th- Sunday, July 9th

The PECO Multicultural Series continues this weekend with Concilio’s Hispanic Fiesta 2017. There will be several diverse musicians, dancers, and more. This cultural celebration will be a great way to see the wonders and treasures these great performer have to offer. There will be food and drink vendors on location.

15. Chestnut Hill Petapalooza


Where: Germantown and E. Highland Ave.
When: Sunday, July 9th, 12PM-3PM

The Chestnut Hill Garden District will be hosting the 4th Annual Petapalooza this Sunday. There will be a line a various animal rescue centers to give information, a photo booth, food, music, arts and crafts, a petting zoo, and more.

16. Reggae Sundays


Where: Grunners Run, 1001 N. 2nd St.
When: Sunday, July 9th, 4PM-8PM

Grunners Run hosts Reggae Sundays each week. You can bring chairs and the family to this free musical event. The outdoor piazza will have live music from Jonifin Marvin and The Philly Raggae Band. This is a fun and unwinding way to bow into the work week and listen to some amazing musicians.

17. James Taylor


Where: Wells Fargo Center, 3601 s. Broad St.
When: Sunday, July 9th, 7:30PM

Grammy award-winning American singer-songwriter James Taylor will be bringing his 2017 show to the Wells Fargo Center this Sunday. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee is one of the best-selling music acts of all time. Come see the “Fire and Rain” singer and Bonnie Raitt at this great South Philadelphia complex.

18. Twilight Music Festival


Where: 1233 Martin Luther King Jr. Dr.
When: Sunday, July 9th, 12PM-10PM

Each Sunday from July 9th through August 27th, Parks on Tap will be hosting a Twilight Music Festival event. Each week MLK Jr. Drive will feature several local acts and put them on full display to a welcoming crowd. There will be drinks and food at each location of this free gathering.
