Rhys Hoskins Finally Gives the Phillies an Identity

It’s a bird … it’s a plane … no, it’s Rhys Hoskins. It was long overdue, but now Mr. Hoskins has turned fan frustration into utter jubilation. He is turning into must-see TV for the city of Philadelphia and any person who is a fan of Major League Baseball. There hasn’t been this must buzz surrounding a new Phillies slugger since the days of Ryan Howard.

Hoskins is part of a Philly Youth Movement that includes the likes of Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons and, yes, Carson Wentz. The best part is that we don’t have to wonder when he is going to play or try to guess his back-to-backs. The Phillies slugger has already shown the poise to lead a historic run and the patience to wait for his pitch. Wait, a Phillies slugger who waits for their pitch? Take notes, Mr. Franco.

Just in case you haven’t been following, here’s a quick look at Hoskins’ numbers:

.297/.408/.828 with 11 homers and 24 RBIs in 18 games.

He has homered in eight of his last nine games. He has also hit a home run in five straight games. This puts him in the illustrious company of Ken Griffey Jr., Don Mattingly, and Dale Long, who collectively hold the record of homering in eight straight games.

These are just a few of his remarkable accomplishments with many more to come. He is making a name for himself in the national spotlight, as well. Here are some of the latest tweets associated with his feats:

There have been many opinions about his late call up and how it could have affected his eligibility for recognition. As this may be justified, I suggest we just sit back and enjoy Philly’s version of Superman. Let’s face it, times like these cannot be taken for granted!
