What’s Happening in Philly This Weekend: August 18-20

Each weekend, we will post some of the most unique social and culture places to visit in addition to exciting events in and around the Philly area. We call it Philly Influencer’s Weekend Picks. Events Running Through the Weekend

1. Come Together Dance Festival

Where: Suzanne Roberts Theatre, 480 S. Broad St.
When: Wednesday, August 16th through Sunday, August 20th

The fourth annual Come Together Dance Festival begins this week and runs through Sunday. There will be incredible performances from PHILADACO!, Brian Sander’s JUNK, Just Sole! Street Dance Company, and more than thirty other dance companies. This will be a great illustration of the tremendous talent and skill Philadelphia has to offer.

2. Philadelphia Folk Festival

Where: Philadelphia Folk Festival, 1323 Salford Station Rd. Schwenksville, PA
When: Thursday, August 17th-Sunday, August 20th

The Philadelphia Folksong Society presents the 56th Philadelphia Folk Festival. Throughout the weekend, folk fans in the area can partake in this amazing open-air musical event. There will be dozens of performers at this live music festival that will have crafts, kids activities, vendors, and of course and exciting musical shows.

3. Night Out Restaurant Week

Where: Various locations
When: Friday, August 18th-Sunday, August 27th

Fishtown, Northern Liberties, and Penn’s Landing will merge this weekend in their efforts to promote the amazing culinary spots and gems in the city over the next week. Night Out Restaurant Week includes over twenty restaurants with specially crafted menus and drinks specials. Everyone who eats at a participating eatery gets a $10 free play at SugarHouse Casino on top of a tremendous meal.

4. Hidden Figures

Where: Clark Park, 4300 Baltimore Ave.
When: Friday, August 18th, 8PM

Clark Park continues is series of outdoor movie screenings this Friday by showing the Academy Award nominated film Hidden Figures. The outdoor production will have snacks, vendors, is BYOB, and best of all its free. Come see this amazing film based on true events that contains magnanimous performances. This event is kid and pet friendly.

5. Avengers: Age of Ultron

Where: Dilworth Park, 1 S. 15th St.
When: Friday, August 18th, 8:30PM

The out-of-this-world and action packed film Avengers: Age of Ultron will get its Center City outdoor debut this Friday evening. The Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, and Mark Ruffalo starring film has eye-popping fighting sequences, tons of fast-paced scenes, and more. This event is free to the public.

6. Mustard Seed Film Festival

Where: Various locations
When: Friday, August 18th-Sunday, August 20th

The 2017 Mustard Seed Film Festival will take place over the next few days. This South Asian Film Festival will have daily movie screenings, discussions, and more. This entertainment event will consist of contemporary films and documentaries. This inclusive artistic showcase will be a great way to see powerful works across a talented diaspora.

7. Tim McGraw & Faith Hill

Where: Wells Fargo Center, 3601 S. Broad St.
When: Friday, August 18th, 7:30PM

Dynamic duo Faith Hill and Tim McGraw will be bringing their Soul 2 Soul World Tour to the Wells Fargo Center this Friday night. The couple just released a new single titled “Speak to a Girl” this spring. Both are top acts in music with eight Grammys combined and a multitude of top singles. This award-wining couple will be a top ticket in town this weekend.

8. John Mayer

Where: BB&T Pavilion, 1 Harbour Blvd. Camden, NJ
When: Friday, August 18th, 7PM

Singer-songwriter, guitarist, and producer John Mayer will be completing the local stop on his In Search for Everything World Tour this Friday night. The tour, aptly named for his 2017 album release, will showcase the “Love on the Weekend” singer’s talented musicianship, vocals, and lyricism.

9. RedLine Fitness Training

Where: In front of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, 2600 Benjamin Franklin Pkwy.
When: Saturday, August 19th, 8AM

RedLine Fitness has been holding early morning weekday workouts in Fairmount Park at 5:45AM. This Saturday morning the boot camp framed intensive will be in front of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The free 60 minute workout will be a great way to get your body in gear this weekend. Snap Kitchen has partnered with this event and will be supplying attendees with snacks. Guest will also received a coupon for a free meal at the local eatery.

10. Good Libations Market

Where: Greensgrow Farms, 2501 E. Cumberland St.
When: Saturday, August 19th, 10AM-2PM

Greensgrow Farms has been holding a Good Libations Market each 3rd Saturday of each month. This week there will be a diverse selection of cider makers at the outdoor market. Ploughman Farm Cider, Commonwealth Cider, and Kurant Cider will have tons of fresh, local, and delicious beverages for sampling. Everything from hard ciders to organically produced sips will be up for purchase.

11. Collingswood Craft & Fine Arts Festival

Where: Haddon Ave and W. Collings Ave. Collingswood, NJ
When: Saturday, August 19th-Sunday, August 20th, 10AM-5PM

This annual rain or shine event is in its 20th year. The Collingswood Craft and Fine Arts Festival will have over 160 vendors supplying the area with handcrafted collectibles, antiques, tapestries, art, and more. There will be food, beverages, and kid zones at this free to enter event that attracts thousands. There will be a Night Market food festival on Saturday night as well.

12. 40th Street Summer Series

Where: 40th and Walnut St.
When: Saturday, August 19th, 6PM

University City District rotating outdoor music festival is popping up this weekend. The Worldtown Soundsystem will be on the main stage with their 8 piece band full of rhythmic and percussion centered world music. The band includes members from Jamaica, Nigeria, Brazil, and America. The music is a triumphant blend of all the wondrous sounds coming from each culture. Come out to this free event that will have food and more.

13. Super Solar Saturday

Where: The Mann Center, 5201 Parkside Ave.
When: Saturday, August 19th, 12:30PM-9PM

The Mann Center will be hosting a Super Solar Saturday this weekend. There will be a collective effort by several institutions and landmarks in the city to get Philadelphians ready for the coming solar eclipse. This free festival only requires an RSVP and will have live performances, games, activities, science presentations, a movie screening, and more. This is a prelude to The Great American Eclipse event this Monday.

14. Lynard Skynard & Hank Williams Jr.

Where: BB&T Pavilion, 1 Harbour Blvd. Camden, NJ
When: Saturday, August 19th, 7PM

The BB&T Pavilion will be filled for the second time this weekend when Lynard Skynard and Hank Williams Jr. fill the massive amphitheater with the sounds of their joint tour. The country and rock musical legends and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees will have tons of hits to choose from when they start electrifying the crowd with their memorable songs.

15. Lady B’s Annual Basement Party

Where: Dell Music Center, 2400 Strawberry Mansion Dr.
When: Saturday, August 19th, 7PM

The Dell Music Center will be the place to be for old school hip hop fans. This Saturday is Lady B’s Annual Basement Party featuring Big Daddy Kane, Doug E. Fresh, The furious Five, The Sugar Hill Gang, Schooly D, and more. Come hear these musical greats that elevated a culture and whole genre.

16. Philadelphia Caribbean Festival

Where: Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing, 101 S. Columbus Blvd.
When: Sunday, August 20th, 12PM-8PM

The 31st Annual Caribbean Festival is this Sunday. Sponsored by PECO, The Delaware Waterfront, and others this event serves to celebrate and display the beauty and wonders of island culture. There will be live music, art, dance performances, vendors selling unique crafts and fashions, and more. Come see the skits, pageantry, and amazing sights coming from the stage.

17. Radio 104.5 Summer Block Party

Where: Festival Pier at Penn’s Landing, 601 N. Columbus Blvd.
When: Sunday, August 20, 2PM

The Radio 104.5 Summer Block Party Series continues its Festival Pier residency this Sunday. This weekend’s lineup includes Vance Joy, Portugal. The Man, Judah & the Lion, The Outdoor Type, and The Groove Merchants. The outdoor free show always brings masses of true music fans out at this fantastic concert venue. A ticket us required for this event.

18. Bounce, Skate, and Roll

Where: Blue Cross RiverRink, 101 S. Columbus Blvd.
When: Saturday, August 20th, 7PM-10PM

The Blue Cross RiverRink will be hosting a Bounce, Skate, and Roll event this Sunday. This is a free and open to the public party. Roller Skating rink admission is $3 and there are $10 rentals. Come dance to the live music and be serenaded by the tunes of King Britt as you circle around this beautiful waterfront gem.
