Eagles Lose Both Jason Peters and Jordan Hicks for the Season

The injuries for the Philadelphia Eagles had already begun to pile up this season, but the team suffered their worst blows on Monday night.

Eagles head coach Doug Pederson confirmed Tuesday that left tackle Jason Peters and middle linebacker Jordan Hicks are both out for the season. Peters tore both the ACL and MCL in his right knee on Monday night during Philadelphia 34-24 win over the Washington Redskins. At 35, that might not only be a season-ending injury, but a career-ender. Hicks, meanwhile, ruptured his Achilles on the second play.

Peters was carted off the field and surrounded by teammates while the Philadelphia fans chanted the nine-time Pro Bowler’s name. No decision has been made at left tackle, but Pederson hinted that he likes having Lane Johnson on the right side. Halipoulivaati Vaitai came in at left tackle for Peters on Monday night.

Depth at linebacker was already scarce and losing Hicks is devastating. Najee Goode and Joe Walker filled in for Hicks. Mychal Kendricks also didn’t play Monday due to a hamstring injury.

Pederson indicated during his press conference that the team will look in-house for replacements for Peters and Hicks. If I’m Howie Roseman, I’m giving the San Francisco 49ers a ring about the availability of Joe Staley or even the Houston Texans and see if Duane Brown would want to end his holdout by getting traded. The Eagles are in a position where they can win a Super Bowl this season, I’d try and bring in Staley or Brown immediately.
