What’s Happening in Philly This Weekend: October 27-29

Each weekend, we will post some of the most unique social and culture places to visit in addition to exciting events in and around the Philly area. We call it Philly Influencer’s Weekend Picks. Here’s our list of the top Halloween parties and bar events this week.

Events Running Through the Weekend

1. Powerhouse

Where: Wells Fargo Center, 3601 S. Broad St.
When: Friday, October 27th, 6PM

Philadelphia’s annual hip-hop and R&B takeover is center stage this Friday. Hitmakers like Cardi B, Travis Scott, Migos, Rick Ross, French Montana, and Philly’s own Meek Mill are all highlighting this lineup. The Wells Fargo Center will be packed with thousands rapping along to today’s biggest hits.

2. Micahel Ian Black

Where: Helium Comedy Club, 2031 Sansom St.
When: Friday, October 27th-Saturday, October 28th

Comedian Michael Ian Black will be making a multiple night stop at Helium Night Club this weekend. The “Wet Hot American Summer” and “I Love the…” VH1 series regular is a known funnyman in the in the comedic world. Go to Helium to see his full set if you’re looking for laughs over the next few days.

3. Mütter Museum Mischief 

Where: Mütter Museum, 19 S. 22nd St.
When: Friday, October 27th, 6:30PM

This Friday night is the Mütter Museum’s thirds annual Mischief night extravaganza. The party’s location will be reworked into a 19th century style soiree. There will be a great dinner, live entertainment, and many more surprise attractions popping up throughout the night.

4. Day of the Dead at Penn Museum

Where: Penn Museum, 3260 South St.
When: Saturday, October 28th, 11AM-4PM

The Consulate of Mexico in Philadelphia and the Mexican Cultural Center have come together to create this special Day of the Dead celebration. There will be traditional Aztec dancers, marionette puppets, sweet pan de muerto, spicy hot chocolate, and much more. The museum gallery will also be open for several exhibitions.

5. Philly Free Streets

Where: Philadelphia Historic District
When: Saturday, October 28th, 8AM-1PM

This Saturday morning through the afternoon the streets of Philadelphia Historic District will be clear. The city-wide initiative will allow people to navigate through the once bustling streets and interact with clear downtown shops, parks, and neighborhoods.

6. Franklin Square Halloween

Where: Franklin Square, 200 N. 6th St.
When: Saturday, October 28th, 12PM-3PM

Franklin Square has been a great venue this season for spooky mini-golf and various pumpkin patch activities. This Saturday there will be a Trick-or-Treat Trail. Families will be able to create their own Halloween themed bags and more. Kids must have costumes to participate in this free event.

7. Yokai Family Weekend

Where: Shofuso Japanese House and Garden, Lansdowne Dr. & Horticultural Dr.
When: Saturday, October 28th-Sunday, October 29th

There’s only one place in this city that you can partake in the Tsukumogami Scavenger Hunt, make your own umbrella ghost puppet, paper mask, Japanese theater, and more. Shofuso Japanese House and Garden will provide an elaborate cultural atmosphere for the whole family.

8. Head of Schuylkill Regatta

Where: Schuylkill River Banks
When: Saturday, October 28th-Sunday, October 29th

This Saturday and Sunday come to the scenic Schuylkill River banks for this storied and athletic tradition. The Head of Schuylkill Regatta will have an amazing course for the collective of competitors on the water. Come out for the high energy races and to see this great, rigorous, and powerful sport on full display.

9. Fall Fest and Spooky Saturday

Where: East Passyunk Ave.
When: Saturday, October 28th, 11AM-4PM

East Passyunk Avenue will be buzzing with several Philadelphians this Saturday. The Fall Fest and Spooky Saturday event will have something for each family member and friend. There will be free pumpkin decorating, live music, a costume contest, a scarecrow scavenger hunt, and more.

10. South Street Pumpkin Fest

Where: Head House Square
When: Saturday, October 28th, 12PM-5PM

The South Street Pumpkin Fest will have trick-or-treating, horse and hay rides, live musical performances, food vendors, a magician, and several other activities. This Saturday afternoon event will also have best costume contest. This family friendly event is one that you shouldn’t miss.

11. Free Marshall Screening

Where: Rave Theater, 4012 Walnut St.
When: Saturday, October 29th, 10AM

Senator Vincent Hughes and many others will be at Rave Cinemas this Saturday morning to attend a free screening of the film Marshall. Come see Starring Chadwick Boseman and Emmy Winner Sterling Brown as they portray the life of Thurgood Marshall in this fantastic historically set film.

12. Tracy Morgan

Where: Tower Theatre, S. 69th St. and Ludlow St.
When: Saturday, October 28th, 8PM

Comedian and actor Tracy Morgan will be filling the Tower Theatre with all the laughs this Saturday. The SNL alum and star of several productions including 30 Rock, Cop Out, and the future Richard Pryor biopic, will have several new material to work from. Come see this great talent’s return to the standup stage.

13. Léon

Where: The Foundry, 29 E. Allen St.
When: Saturday, October 28th, 8PM

Swedish singer Léon will be gracing the stage at The Foundry at The Fillmore. This year she’s released two EP’s For You and Surround Me. The “Tired of Talking” singer is one of the bright new acts in music. Come see this bold singer continue her first North American Tour this Saturday night.

14. Día de los Muertos Celebrations

Where: Fleisher Art Memorial, 719 Catharine St.
When: Sunday, October 29th, 4PM-9:30PM

This Sunday the Fleisher Art Memorial will be having its Diá de los Muertos celebration. The day of the dead cultural gathering will have elaborate artistry, pageantry, and more in its massive precession. There will be live performances, dances, artists, and several other things on display.

15. Dwali at Reading Terminal

Where: Reading Terminal Market, 51 N. 12th St.
When: Sunday, October 29th, 11AM-3PM

Reading Terminal Market will be having a fantastic Dwali Festival of Lights celebration this Sunday. The event will have Indian cultural dances, authentic cuisine including a cooking demonstration, Indian art, mendi hand painting, and more. The free event is open to all ages.

16. Eagles vs. 49ers

When: Lincoln Financial Field, 1 Lincoln Financial field Way
Where: Sunday, October 29th, 1PM

The 6-1 Philadelphia Eagles will be putting their NFL leading record to the test this Sunday afternoon when they take on the San Francisco 49ers. The winless bay area team come to the Linc seeking solid ground to ignite their season. Come out this Sunday to cheer on the Bird Gang as the shoot for win seven.

17. Gwendolyn Brooks Night at the African American Museum

Where: The African American Museum in Philadelphia, 701 Arch St.
When: Sunday, October 29th, 2PM

Kansas author, poet, and teacher Gwendolyn Brooks will be celebrated this Sunday at the African American Museum. Teaming up with the Art Sanctuary and Moonstone Art Center, this afternoon event will have local poets sharing their work, an in-depth discussion of Brooks’ work, and more.

18. Fall Out Boy

Where: Wells Fargo Center, 3601 S. Broad St.
When: Sunday, October 29th, 7PM

Jaden smith and Blackbear will be kicking off the show this Sunday when Fall Out Boy brings their Fall Out Boy Mania Tour to the Wells Fargo Center. In January the band will be releasing the album Mania. It will be their seventh studio production for this lasting alternative rock ensemble. Come hear some of the new songs from the “Sugar, We’re Going Down” act.

19. Dru Hill

Where: TLA, 334 South St.
When: Sunday, October 29th, 8PM

If you’re looking for some flashback R&B this Halloween weekend, come to the Theater of Living Arts this Sunday night. Dru Hill will be performing for the Live Nation The Circuit Series. The “How Deep Is Your Love” singers will also be coming out with a Christmas release in the next coming months.
