The Eagles have reportedly settled on their new offensive coordinator

Doug Pederson has reportedly decided on his next offensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles.

After interviewing both running backs coach Duce Staley and wide receivers coach Mike Groh yesterday, Pederson has promoted Groh as the team’s new offensive coordinator, according to ESPN’s Tim McManus.

While many thought Staley would perhaps get the nod due to the amount of time he’s spent in Philly as the coach, it’s clear Pederson thinks the offense will run better with Groh at the helm. Groh absolutely turned this wide receiving corps around this past season, which probably had a lot to do with the talent Carson Wentz was given around him, as well. While we all love Staley, Groh’s rapport with the receivers will likely follow him to the film room and on the field with the team’s franchise quarterback in Wentz. With Staley, it’s possible that Pederson thought the bridge from running backs to the quarterback and passing game was longer than Groh’s.

While I understand why this move was reportedly made, one has to wonder how much Staley wants to continue coaching here without being given the reigns of the entire offense. The running backs reportedly love Staley and wanted to see him get promoted. Even LeSean McCoy went to bat for his former coach. It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out on the running back coach situation in the near future.

And that now also leaves an opening for the team’s wide receivers coach. Stay tuned.
