What’s happening in Philly this weekend: Feb. 23-25

Each weekend, we will post some of the most unique social and cultural places to visit in addition to exciting events in and around the Philly area. We call it Philly Influencer’s Weekend Picks. Events running Through the Weekend

1. Philadelphia Fashion Week

Where: Various locations
When: Runs through Saturday, February 24th

Philly Fashion Week kicked into high gear a few days ago. Don’t miss out on all the phenomenal events that the clothing and design showcase has in store for the city. There will be dazzling runways, clothing displays  displays, boutique popups, after parties, and more.

2. Black History Month at the AAMP

Where: The African American Museum in Philadelphia, 701 Arch St.
When: Friday, February 23rd-Saturday, February 24th

With the last few days of Black History Month winding down, the African American Museum in Philadelphia has several celebrations planned throughout the weekend. This Friday “A Beautiful Thang: Black Arts Salon” will be highlighting poetry and music. This Saturday there will be dancing, a book signing, and many more cultural excursions.

3. Classical at the Kimmel

Where: Kimmel Center, 300 S. Broad St.
When: Friday, February 23rd-Sunday, February 25th

The Kimmel Center is often a place in the city to discover the tranquility of classical music. Friday pianist Mitsuko Uchida will be holding a concert. On that same night and Saturday, a great ensemble will be heralding Beethoven, Brahms and Brass. And to top off your weekend this Sunday the  Philadelphia Youth Orchestra will be holding a stellar performance.

4. Dinos After Dark

Where: The Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University, 1900 Benjamin Franklin Pkwy.
When: Friday, February 23rd, 5PM-8PM

The fourth Friday of the month transitions The Academy of Natural Sciences into an after-hours hangout. The museum gives gallery access, has food and drinks for sale, a spanning beer garden, and plenty fun instructional for the masses.

5. Artist Bash at The Barnes

Where: Barnes Foundation, 2025 Benjamin Franklin Pkwy.
When: Friday, February 23rd, 8PM-11PM

This Friday night The Barnes Foundation will be hosting Artist Bash: Heartache. The night will be full of phenomenal entertainment and unique gallery access to Kiefer RodinThere will be live musical performances, DJ Mr. Sonny James will be spinning the night away to some amazing hits, and more. The immersive night will include shadow puppetry by Hua Hua Zhang, performances by Kingsley Ibeneche; the vocal skills of Bethlehem, Laurin Talese, and Daniel de Jesus. Come out for a fun night of dancing, art, culture, and creativity.

6. A Steady Rain

Where: Walnut Street Theatre, 825 Walnut St.
When: Runs through Sunday, March 25th

The Walnut Street Theatre brings a play that the Chicago Tribune called, “a gritty, rich, thick, poetic and entirely gripping noir tale” to Philadelphia this weekendThe Center City theater will be running  A Steady Rain through the end of next month. The cop drama has many twists and emotional turns that will have you on the edge of your seat.

7. Shen Yun

Where: Merriam Theater, 250 S. Broad St.
When: Friday, February 23rd-Sunday, March 11th

Shen Yun artistically brings several generations of traditional Chinese culture to the City of Brotherly Love over the next month. Come see the pageantry, spiritual origins, and history. The audience will take a visual journey through a rich civilization and see the roots of these great people.

8. Best Picture Weekend at Prince Theater

Where: Prince Theater, 1412 Chestnut St.
When: Friday, February 23rd-Sunday, February 25th

The Prince Theater’s main stage will feature a lineup of every Academy Award Best Picture nominee over the weekend. The Shape of Water, Lady Bird, The Darkest Hour, Get Out, Three Billboards Outside of Ebbing, Missouri, and more will be on the menu. Movie fanatics can get a weekend pass for $50.

9. Plastic Cup Boyz

Where: Punch Line Philly, 33 E. Laurel St.
When: Friday, February 23rd-Saturday, February 24th

The Plastic Cup Boyz were the opening act of Kevin Hart’s last global tour. The Philly native gave this dynamic duo a platform to broaden their audience and comedy fans around the world embraced them. This up-and-coming powerhouse will be bringing all the laughs this weekend at Punch Line Philly. You don’t want to miss out.

10. AWOLNATION

Where: The Fillmore Philadelphia, 29 E. Allen St.
When: Friday, February 23rd, 8PM

Radio 104.5 presents AWOLNATION’s Here Come The Runts Tour. This Friday night The Fillmore Philadelphia will host the “Passion” singers. In the beginning of the month, the alternative and indie rock band released their third studio album. This will be a fantastic setting to see this popular band.

11. Marian: The Philadelphia Story

Where: Marian Anderson Historical Society & Museum, 762 Martin St.
When: Saturday, February 24th-Wednesday, October 31st

A new 2018 exhibition is premiering at The National Marian Anderson Museum this Saturday. ‘Marian The Philadelphia Story’ depicts the journey of the Philadelphia native’s rise to stardom. Come see possessions of the icon, signature art pieces, photographs, videos, and more.

12. Celebration of African Cultures

Where: Penn Museum, 3260 South St.
When: Saturday, February 24th, 11AM-4PM

Penn Museum will also be getting into the Black History Month Celebrations this weekend. This Saturday the educational institution will have an African marketplace, craft-making stations, games, art, food, and more. This great feature will place a shimmering perspective on the beauty of the African Diaspora.

13. Beats, Brews, and BBQ

Where: World Cafe Live, 3025 Walnut St.
When: Saturday, February 24th, 1PM

In its 14th year, Beats Brews & BBQ will be taking over World Cafe Live this Saturday afternoon. Over 40 breweries will be on location with several seasonal, craft, and rare libations. Each guest will get 30oz samples along with their ticket purchase of each beer. There will be live music and an abundance of food.

14. Philly Bierfest

Where: German Society Of Pennsylvania, 611 Spring Garden St.
When: Saturday, February 24th, 2PM-5:30PM

Speaking of beer celebrations, the 2018 Philly Bierfest will be the place to be this Saturday afternoon. Hosted by The German Society of Pennsylvania, the five-story structure will be full of incredible brews, games, quizzo, taste-offs, and more.

15. 76ers vs. Magic

Where: Wells Fargo Center, 3601 S. Broad St.
When: Saturday, February 24th, 5PM

The NBA All-Star break is officially over. 2018 selection Joel Embiid and Rising Stars Challenge standouts Ben Simmons and Dario Saric will be taking on the Orlando Magic this Saturday afternoon. Come to the Wells Fargo Center and cheer on these playoff hopefuls.

16. Party at the Market

Where: Reading Terminal Market, 51 N. 12th St.
When: Saturday, February 24th, 7:30PM-11PM

Thousands will be enjoying the festive atmosphere at the Reading Terminal Market this Saturday night. Their annual Party at the Market soiree will feature open bars, over 30 vendors, casino games, live music, and plenty more activities.

17. Temple vs. UCF

Where: Liacouras Center, 1176 N. Broad St.
When: Sunday, February 25th, 2PM

The Temple Owls will be taking on the UCF Knights this Sunday afternoon. The American Athletic Conference foes will be dueling it out on the Liacouras Center hardwood. It will also be Dollar Dog Day throughout the entire venue.

18. Love Letter Train Tour

Where: Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, 118 N. Broad St.
When: Sunday, February 25th, 1PM-2:30PM

Mural Arts will be doing a Lover Letter to the city all weekend with an immersing subway tour of the various murals in the city. Guests will hop the on the subway and be amazed by the harvest of artistic greatness adorning several buildings in the city. This Sunday’s tour leaves from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts (PAFA).

19. Kids Rock Philly

Where: World Cafe Live, 3025 Walnut St.
When: Sunday, February 25th, 1PM

World Cafe Live will be hosting Kids Rock Philly this Sunday. In a great collaboration with School of Rock, this rock show will showcase some of the best young regional talents. The brilliant kids have been working tirelessly and learning new skills. Come see their amazing work.

20. Love Me Some Comedy

Where: Punch Line Philly, 33 E. Laurel St.
When: Sunday, February 25th, 8:30PM

Just like World Cafe Live, Punch Line Philly is making another showing on this list. This Sunday Skeet Carter’s Love Me Some Comedy event will be celebrating all the amusing range that a great lineup can offer. These amazing comedians will be doing some tremendous work.

21. East Passyunk Avenue Restaurant Week

Where: Various locations
When: Begins Monday, February 26th-Friday, March 9th

This is more of a heads-up addition to the list. This Monday kicks off East Passyunk Restaurant Avenue Week. The next two weeks will feature three-course prix fixe lunch and/or dinner for $15, $25 or $35. Twenty-six restaurants in the area will be buzzing with great deals and a booming crowd.
