Events Running Through the Weekend

1. Closing This Weekend: Collective Conscious

 

Where: The African American Museum in Philadelphia, 701 Arch St.
When: Ends Sunday, August 26th

Collective Conscious: The Art of Social Change will be closing this weekend.  This great institution has been showcasing works examining consciousness, the racial upheaval, socio-economic, and cultural issues for months. There will be a closing ceremony this Sunday which will include artists Russell Craig, Keir Johnston, James Maurelle and Tieshka K. Smith. WURD radio host Stephanie Renee will be holding a discussion with these creatives on the current state or cultural activism and art.

2. Smooth Jazz Summer Nights

Where: Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing, 101 S Christopher Columbus Blvd.
When: Friday, August 24th, 7:30PM-9:30PM

Each Friday, through the month of August, the Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing has been filled with wonderful live music. Smooth Jazz Summer Nights is a free outdoor concert series highlighting jazz and blues musicians. This Friday night renowned R&B and soul singer Leela James will be performing.

3. Movie Screenings

Where: Various locations
When: Friday, Agust 24th

The Summer rays are still basking the area with warmth. There are several outdoor activities that sweep through the area through these months of glorious weather. Free movie screenings are one of the best pop up attractions the city has to offer. Wonder Woman will be screened at Dilworth Park this Friday. You can catch the blockbuster A Wrinkle In Time at Clark Park this Friday night as well.

4. Fourth Friday on Fabric Row

Where: Various locations
When: Friday, August 24th, 6 PM-9PM

Fabric Row is a scintillating independent shopping strip in the city. Several art houses, collectives, fabric shops will be having sales and deals.  Stop by Little Moon + Arrow, Cactus Collective, Fabriq, Paradigm Gallery + Studio, and others to shop and browse.

5. Friday Nights at the Philadelphia Museum of Art

Where: Philadelphia Museum of Art, 2600 Benjamin Franklin Pkwy.
When: Friday, August 24th, 5:30PM-8:45PM

Each Friday, the Philadelphia Museum of Art has a weekly Final Fridays series each week. The event merges music, art, cocktails, small plates, culture, and crafts. This Friday, Arpeggio Jazz Ensemble will be filling the institution with the sounds of ” Lester Young, Duke Ellington, Dexter Gordon, and more”.

6. Clues and Booze and Chews

Where: Cliveden, 6401 Germantown Ave.
When: Friday, August 24th, 6PM-9PM

Cliveden in Historic Germantown will be hosting Clues and Booze and Chews this Friday night. The popular series returns for another week and is just $25. This will be a large-scale scavenger hunt, that includes drinks, small plates, and entertainment.

7. Twilight in the Gardens

Where: Philadelphia Magic Gardens, 1020 South St.
When: Friday, August 25th, 7PM-10PM

Philadelphia Magic Gardens continues its Twilight in the Gardens multi-sensory event. It’s a byo (bring your own) food, drinks, blankets, and friends sensation. Participants experience an engaging and wonderful level escapism on this fun-filled musical and craft night. Enjoy live and magnificent performances and view various works of art.

8. An Evening with Jon Dorenbos

Where: SugarHouse Casino, 1001 N Delaware Ave
When: Friday, August 24th and Saturday, August 24th, 8PM

Former Philadelphia Eagle great and magician extraordinaire Jon Dorenbos will be performing at SugarHosue Casino for two nights this weekend. The entertainment venue’s audience will be dazzled by this America’s Got Talent act and beloved sports icon.

9. I Love the ’90s Tour

Where: BB&T Pavilion, 1 Habour Blvd. Camden, NJ
When: Friday, August 25th, 7:30PM

For all of you old-school hip-hop fans and music fans out there, the Camden Waterfront will be buzzing this Friday night. Salt N Pepa, Coolio, Biz Markie, 2 Live Crew, and Rob Base will be rocking the crowd and infusing it with nostalgia anthems all night long.

10. Art Star Pop Up Market

Where: Spruce Street Harbor Park, 301 S Christopher Columbus Blvd.
When: Saturday, August 25th, 12PM-5PM

The Art Star Pop Up Market is a local handmade crafts festival that takes place each Saturday at Spruce Harbor Street Park. Several regional artisans come out each week to peddle candles, paintings,  jewelry, shirts, collectibles, ceramics, and other handmade goods.

11. 26th Annual Ukranian Folk Festival

Where:  Ukrainian Sports Center, 1 Lower State Rd, North Wales, PA
When: Saturday, August 2gth, 12PM-8PM

This free Ukrainian cultural enthralling event brings together a people of great history. There will be dazzling Ukrainian folk art, music, dance, and food. This unification spectacular will have children’s areas, with face painting and games, and multiple vendors. The festival is $15 for adults and $10 for students and children under the age of 15.

12. Fonthill Castle Beer Fest

Where: Fonthill Castle, 525 E. Court St. Doylestown, PA
When: Saturday, August 25th, 2PM-5PM

Head on over to Fonthill Castle in Doylestown for a tremendous day of fun and plenty of brews. This Saturday is the annual Fonthill Castle Beer FestThere will be over 35 local and regional breweries represented, live musical entertainment, and light fare and small plates. General admission gets you unlimited samplings and there is also a VIP option.

13. Summer Sounds on the Square

When: Saturday, August 26th, 6PM-8PM

New to Franklin Square in 2018, Summer Sounds on the Square offers up free live music sessions each weekend. Sponsored by VISIT PHILADELPHIA, there will be an open beer garden during the event as part of the Summer Sounds in the Historic District initiative. This Saturday night Fish Harmonics will be performing.

14. Union vs. New England Revolution

When: Saturday, August 25th, 7PM

The Philadelphia Union will be trying to protect their home turf this Saturday night when they take on the New England Revolution. Fresh off their third consecutive victory, the squad will look to have Talen Energy Stadium rocking under the lights. Come out for a night of high energy athleticism.

15. Jason Aldean

Where: BB&T Pavillion, 1 Harbour Blvd. Camden, NJ
When: Saturday, August 25th, 8PM

In 2017 Jason Aldean won his first ACM “Entertainer of the Year” award. This Friday at the BB&T  Aldean and opening act Lauren Alaina will be lighting up the crowd at this amazing waterfront amphitheater. The tour supports his 2018 studio album Rearview Town.

16. Comedy Hustle Summer Showcase

Where: World Cafe Live, 3025 Walnut St.
When: Saturday, August 25th, 8:30PM

The third installment of the Comedy Hustle returns to World Cafe Live this Saturday night. Several of the hottest names in comedy will be out at this hilarious showcase. Hosted by Lawrence Killebrew from Kevin Harts’s Hart Of the City, this is will be a fun way to spend your Saturday night.

17. Sunday Pop Up Plays

Where: Spruce Street Harbor Park, 301 S Christopher Columbus Blvd.
When: Sunday, August 26th, 11:30AM

Bring your family out to Pop Up Play each Sunday at Spruce Street Harbor Park. This interactive playtime will be guiding your kids through the themes of music, art, science, history, physics, and more. There will be plenty of games and smiles at this active event.

18. Love Me Some Comedy

Where: Punch Line Philly, 33 E. Laurel St.
When: Sunday, August 26th, 8:30PM

This Sunday’s rotational series Love Me Some Comedy will feature great local and nationwide acts. Host Skeet Carter will be bringing all the laughs to the venue this Sunday night. Entertainment, fun, and a good time is always a great way to close out your weekend.
