Eagles give their offense a boost by acquiring Golden Tate from Detroit

Did you really think Howie Roseman wasn’t going to make a move?!

The Philadelphia Eagles acquired Golden Tate from the Detroit Lions just hours before Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline for a third-round draft pick.

Tate can’t wait to get to Philly.

Tate gives the offense the much-needed boost they’ve been looking for all year long. He’s also not strictly a slot receiver like many assume. He can play inside or outside and will even line up in the backfield on occasion. So you can keep Nelson Agholor inside if you’d like. Tate is a great route runner, who uses his quickness to create separation at the top of his routes. He also uses those wheels to create a lot of yards after the catch. He’s very reliable, tallying 90-plus catches over his last four years coming into this season.

The 30-year-old Tate is a free agent at the end of the year. A third-round selection for Tate is a bit steep, but Philadelphia has 11 draft picks in this upcoming NFL Draft, including a pair of seconds. If Tate does walk, the Eagles will get a compensatory pick in return in 2020. NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah believes it could be for a third or a fourth-rounder.

There’s still a few hours to go, Howie might not be done making moves just yet!
