Events Running Through the Weekend

1. Closing this Weekend: Mural Arts Month

When: Runs through Saturday, November 3rd

Philadelphia is a vibrant city full of rich artistic history and tradition. In recent years, Mural Arts has sprung up to bring something beautiful and eclectic to several buildings in the city. In celebration of this great program, Mural Arts Month has taken over the city for the past month. The artistic soiree comes to a close this weekend. There will a be mural dedication this Saturday and plenty other closing events.

2. Taste America

When: Friday, November 2nd-Saturday, November 3rd

James Beard Foundation’s Taste America will be this Friday and Saturday. Several talented chefs and restaurateurs will be hosting cooking demonstrations, workshops, cocktail events, and afterparties. This will be a great event full of flavor and fun.

3. Chinese Warriors of Peking 

Where: Merriam Theater, 250 S. Broad St.
When: Friday, November 2nd, 7:30PM

Bring the entire out to the Merriam Theater for this culture wonder and entertaining showcase of acrobatics and skill. The Chinese Warriors of Peking “tell the tale of two rival martial arts disciplines competing in the ancient Chinese capital of Peking”. There will be juggling, weapons handling, live stage combat, and so much more.

4. The Bridge PHL Theatre Festival

2018 Theatre Festival The Bridge PHL

Where: The Rotunda, 4014 Walnut St.
When: Runs through Sunday, November 4th

The Bridge PHL Theatre Festival begins this week and runs through Sunday. This is the 3rd year of this annual event that will feature local artists and performers. There will be  16 shorts including drama, comedy, dance, song, poetry, and more. The works highlight diversity, intersectionality, and “building bridges that span the divide across cultural differences, racial separations”.

5. CraftNOW Philadelphia

Where: Various locations
When: Runs through Friday, December 7th

CraftNOW Philadelphia provides the populace with a rare opportunity to view crafters outside of their specialized studios. Several hand skilled artisans will be on full display at several institutions in the city. There will be wood, clay, stone, metal, fiber, and more works at various galleries, shops, museums, and locations. There will be inaugural CraftMONTH First Friday festivities this weekend in partnership with Old City First Friday.

6. First Fridays at the Museums

Where: Barnes Foundation, 2025 Benjamin Franklin Pkwy. and Philadelphia Museum of Art, 2600 Benjamin Franklin Pkwy.
When:  Friday, July 6th, 6PM-9PM (Barnes) and 5PM-8:45PM (Art Museum)

The Barnes Foundation continues its First Friday! series this weekend. One of the most popular saxophonists of all time, Grover Washington, Jr. will be celebrated this Friday. The Tony Miceli Ensemble will bring his music to life like no other for an unbelievable night of live music. At the Philadelphia Museum of Art trumpeter and composer, Josh Lawrence will be doing a live set. Both events will have cocktails and more.

7. Old City First Friday

Where: Various locations
When: Friday, November 2nd

Each First Friday of the month Old City opens its galleries and studios for a little fun. Several participating spaces will have painting collection, wood workings, sculptures, furniture, metal works, and more all throughout several buildings. The workings are landscape shifting, contemporary, and visually stunning.

8. Frankford Ave First Friday

Where: Various locations
When: Friday, November 2nd

Old City isn’t the only neighborhood celebrating the first Friday of the month. Fishtown will be brimming with art, culture, food, and more. November’s First Friday! will feature special Happy Hours, food tasting events, a dance party at The Barbary, the Hope and Fury concert series at La Colombe, poetry readings, art shows, and several other activities.

9. Havana Nights

Havana Nights: A Celebration of Cuban Music & Food

Where: World Cafe Live, 3025 Walnut St.
When: Friday, November 2nd, 8PM

For another event offering live music, World Cafe Live will be hosting Havana Nights this Friday evening. This is a free event full of Latin flair and music. There will be authentic food and drinks available for purchase. Come out for the amazing salsa music and tear up the dance floor.

10. Cherry Street Pier

Where: Cherry Street Pier, 121 N. Christopher Columbus Blvd.
When: November 2nd-Friday, November 30th (First Fridays) and Saturday, November 3rd, 8AM-8PM

Cherry Street Pier is participating in Old City’s First Fridays events. There will be an open studio tour featuring local photographer James B. Abbott in the newly renovated hotspot. The event will also have beverage samplings with local breweries and distilleries. This Saturday there will be an Antique & Vintage Flea Market with several merchants and vendors peddling great collectibles.

11. Affion Crockett

Where: Punch Line Philly, 33 E. Laurel St.
When: Thursday, November 1st-Saturday, November 3rd

Comedian and entertainer Affion Crockett will be performing at laugh house Punch Line Philly this week. The Def Comedy Jam, black-ish, and Wild-N-Out act brings his original brand of comedy and signature delivery to the city of Brotherly Love. Be sure to get tickets to any of his shows this weekend.

12. An Evening with Jon Doerenbos

Jon Dorenbos Back in Philadelphia

Where: SugarHouse Casino, 1001 N Delaware Ave.
When: Friday, November 2nd and Saturday, November 3rd, 8PM

Following two soldout shows at the same venue, Jon Dorenbos returns to The Event Center at SugarHouse Casino this weekend. The ex-Philadelphia Eagle and the world-famous magician will be bringing his bag of tricks to the region for two special nights.

13. Sabrina Claudio

When: Friday, November 2nd, 8PM

Alternative R&B singer Sabrina Claudio will be performing at the Theatre of Living Arts this Friday night. The young act beautifully blends emotional lyricism with sultry vocals. The surging “Belong To You” star will be serenading a crowd of her fans at this South Street venue. Don’t miss out.

14. Gershman Philadelphia Jewish Film Festival

When: Saturday, November 3rd-Sunday, November 18th

The 38th Annual Philadelphia Jewish Film Festival kicks off this Saturday. The cultural film celebration will be holding special screenings and panel discussions. There will be 35 films in total from over 20 countries around the world. Come and see shorts, documentaries, long features, and others.

15. Mermaids

Where: Adventure Aquarium, 1 Riverside Dr. Camden, NJ
When: Saturday, November 3rd-Sunday, November 11th

Across the bridge on the Camden Waterfront lies Adventure Aquarium. The aquatic institution has something unique and exciting for your entire family. Mermaids is an imaginative exhibit that includes incredible swimmers putting on a mystical show. There are meet-and-greets, crafts, a pirate appearance, and more.

16. Philadelphia Oddities Expo

Where: Philadelphia Insectarium and Butterfly Pavilion, 8046 Frankford Ave. 
When: Saturday, November 3rd, 11AM-11PM

The 2018 Philadelphia Oddities Expo is this Saturday at the Philadelphia Insectarium and Butterfly Pavilion. There will be curated oddities throughout the venue, a tattoo parlor, live performances, science discussions, and much more.

17. The Great Ciderfest Harvest and Beer Festival

Where: Hawthornes, 738 S. 11th St.
When: Saturday, November 3rd, 11 AM- 8PM

The 3rd Annual Great Harvest Beer Festival will be unfolding and brimming from the walls of the Hawthornes Cafe. This is a free-to-enter event that will feature a kids zone, live bands, is pet-friendly, a selection of drafts, food, prizes, and more. Brews will be in abundance at this festival.

18. Pistons vs. 76ers

When: Saturday, November 3rd, 1PM

The Wells Fargo Center will be rocking this Saturday afternoon when the Detroit Pistons come to town. This will be the second matchup of the two teams in an early-season tilt. Here’s hoping we hold Blake under 50 points this time. Sixers nation come out and cheer on your stars!

19. Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen

Where: Academy of Music, 240 S. Broad St.
When: Saturday, November 3rd, 8PM

Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen will be live at the Academy of Music Saturday night.  Cohen and Cooper will be doing an “unscripted, uncensored, and unforgettable night of conversation”. Join the late-night talk show host and the journalist as they interview each other about current events, pop culture, and more.

20. Museum Sundays

When: Sunday, November 4th, 10AM-5PM

The Philadelphia Museum of Art and The Barnes Foundation will be offering up the most wallet-friendly event this Sunday. The Philadelphia Museum of Art will be pay-what-you-wish and The Barnes Foundation’s PECO Free First SundayFamily Day: Art for All event will have free admission for the entire day. Stop by these world-renowned institutions to see the most prestigious artists’ works on full display.

21. First Person Arts Festival

When: Runs through Sunday, November 18th
The First Person Arts Festival begins this weekend and runs through Saturday, November 17th. There will be personal story slams, spoken word performances, comedic showcases, a memoir writing class, and more at this artistic collective.

22. Philadelphia Veterans Day Parade and Festival

Where: 16th Street and John F. Kennedy Blvd (Begins).
When: Sunday, November 4th, 12PM

The 4th Annual Philadelphia Veterans Parade and Festival is this Sunday. Television coverage will be on 6ABC starting at 12:30 pm. There will be food, live music, a freedom tree, kids games, balloon artist, face painting, and more. The parade will include over 3,000 participants and 34 Veteran Service Organizations.

23. Hello Sunshine x Together Live

Where: Merriam Theater, 250 S. Broad St.
When: Sunday, November 4th, 7 p.m

Come to the Merriam Theater this Sunday for a night of great conversation with funny, empowering, talented, and diverse women. From Reese Witherspoon’s production company Hell Sunshine, this Together Live event features Cheryl Strayed, Cleo Wade, Luvvie Ajayi, Nicole Byer, and MILCK.

24. Billie Eilish

When: Sunday, November 4th, 7 PM

Surging young pop act Billie Eilish will be at Union Transfer this Sunday night. The 16 year-old electro-pop act has released two singles from her coming debut album. “Bitches Broken Hearts” and “You Should See Me in a Crown” have gained her tons of attention over the past few months.

25. Elle King

Where: Theatre of Living Arts,  334 South St. 
When: Sunday, November 4th, 8PM

Two-time Grammy nominee Elle King will be performing at the Theatre of Living Arts this Sunday night. The singer-songwriter released her second studio album Shake the Spirit on October 19th of this year. Come see this talented act at this city-favorite music venue.
