Philly Tech Week 2019: Who’s hiring and what to look for

Comcast’s Philly Tech Week has taken over Philadelphia over the past few days. The amazing innovative festival will conclude this Saturday. Organized into 7 different tracks (Creative, Access, Dev, Civic, Business, Media, and Sciences), this weeklong celebration has been a great annual showcase over the years. Get ready for all the after parties, culturally centered events, demonstrations, and more. 

Highlights 

PTW19 Kickoff Festival in Old City: Last Friday, Philly Tech Week kicked off in Old City with a blowout party. There was a scavenger hunt throughout multiple structures in this historic area of the city. There was a live DJ and plenty of drinks from Wild Kombucha, Powers Irish Whiskey,  Quaker City ShrubsRed Bull, and Tito’s Handmade Vodka. Lokal Artisan Foods had delicious samples for all.

Intro to Coding for Kids: This immersive demonstration answered, “Why learn programming?” Students dove right into demos and an interactive coding example. Students learned the basics of coding and opened the gateway to an optimal experience in this growing, vital, and affluent field of technology.

Cypher City Spotlight: Cypher City is a nationwide lyricist and R&B artists competition where the general public has the opportunity to vote via social media channels, for the best lyricists to represent their city through freestyle and circles of soul with cyphers from R&B artists. Tonight, music mogul and nine-time Grammy award-winning songwriter Bryan Michael Cox will appear as this year’s keynote speaker while also receiving Cypher City’s Music Mogul Award. Pretty Ricky’s, Love and Hip-Hop cast member and Founder of the multi-million-dollar tech company Adwizar “Spectacular” Smith will be accepting the Tech Blazer Award of Cypher City along with singer-songwriter and producer Kenny Gamble, who will receive the Legends Award.

Dev Happy Hour: Sponsored by Linode, come network with Philly’s finest programmers, designers, developers and project managers tonight. Dev Track Happy Hour will take place at Landmark Americana from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Introduced by Technical.ly: Introduced by Technical.ly is making its return to Philly Tech Week. Last year there were over 100 speakers jam packed into 24 hours of content. It’s an engrossing one-day conference that highlights programming, demos, networking, and personalized connections. The expo will show off new content, ideas, companies and more.

PTW Signature Event: This Friday, May 9thth the Comcast Tech Building will be hosting all of the all of Philly Tech Week’s attendees, sponsors, partners and event organizers at its signature event. This will be the official after party of the technology expo. There will be an interactive night kitchen, immersive research lab demos, food, entertainment, an open bar, giveaways, and more.

Kensington Derby:  This Saturday, the Philadelphia Federal Credit Union Kensington Derby & Arts Festival will return for its 13th year! Neighborhood artists will be in abundance and local businesses will be booming at this exciting event. Come see these man-made vehicles race and rev up the crowds at this derby showcasing engineering and creativity.
