What’s happening in Philly this weekend: May 17-19

Each weekend, we will post some of the most unique social and cultural places to visit in addition to exciting events in and around the Philly area. We call it Philly Influencer’s Weekend Picks. 1. Phillies Weekend

Where: Citizens Bank Park, 1 Citizens Bank Park Way
When: Friday, May 17th-Sunday, May 19th

The Philadelphia Phillies will be taking on the Colorado Rockies this weekend in a three-game series. This Friday there will be an auction for player-signed items that will benefit Phans Feeding Families. This Saturday is Bud & Burgers night and children under 14 will be able to get a Phillies-themed arm sleeve while supplies last this Sunday.

2. Photo Pop Philly at The Bourse

Where: The Bourse, 111 S. Independence Mall East 
When: Runs through Sunday, July 7th

Photo Pop Philly is an amazing and interactive pop-up in which guests can walk through five distinct rooms fill with artistic displays. The curated exhibition is filled with many local artists, has selfie-worthy highlights, murals, and plenty of spots for you to take photos at.

3. Big Apple Circus

Where: Greater Philadelphia Expo Center, 100 Station Ave. Oaks, PA
When: Runs through Sunday, June 16th

A feat of acrobatics and skill will be coming to the Philadelphia region through the month of June. The Big Apple Circus will be at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center bringing the cheers and feats of the circus world to your doorstep. There will be live animals, sky-high daredevils, high wires, and so many more entertaining options for the entire family.

4. Legally Blonde at Walnut Street Theatre

Where: Walnut Street Theatre, 825 Walnut St.
When: Runs through Sunday, July 14th

Whether it’s spotlighted in Ariana Grande’s “Thank U, Next” video or the bend and snap is brought up at summer BBQs, the immersion Legally Blonde into pop culture history is cemented. For the next two month, the musical will be at Walnut Street Theatre. Come see these phenomenal performers bring this Harvard-bound story to life.

5. Moore’s S/S 2019 Student Fashion Show

Where: Barnes Foundation, 2025 Benjamin Franklin Pkwy.
When: Friday, May 17th, 8PM

This Friday night is Moore’s S/S ’19 Fashion Show. Presented by Century 21 Stores, this event will showcase the beautiful collections from Moore Senior fashion designers. Don’t miss your opportunity to get a look at these phenomenal one-of-a-kind garments from these up-and-coming talents.

6. Godfrey

When: Runs through Sunday, May 19th

Comedian, actor, and entertainer Godfrey will be at Punch Line Philly this weekend. Godfrey recently has a one-hour special on Comedy Central titled  “Godfrey: Black By Accident.” Come see this talented, seasoned standup act, and surging comedian at several shows over the next few days.

7. Margaret Cho

Where: Helium Comedy Club, 2031 Sansom St.
When: Runs through Saturday, May 18th

If you’re looking or more laughs this weekend, come to Helium Comedy Club. American stand-up comedian, actress, fashion designer, author, and singer-songwriter Margaret Cho will be performing multi-night sets at this beloved laugh house.

8. Philadelphia Black History Walking Tour

When: Every Saturday and Sunday through the summer

Every Saturday and Sunday this season you can be enriched by The Black Journey: African-American History Walking Tour of Philadelphia. The 75-minute tour takes you through Philly’s historical black past and how this significant culture played a pivotal role in shaping America’s foundation.

9. Cherry Street Pier

When: Saturday, May 18th, 8 AM-7 PM

Presented by Philadelphia Flea, 75 vendors will be on display at the Indoor Antique & Vintage Market this Saturday. The downtown festivity space will have many vendors peddling paintings, jewelry, antiques, handmade soaps, candles, furnishings, and more.

10. Rittenhouse Row Spring Festival

Where: Rittenhouse Row, Walnut St from Broad St. to 18th St.
When: Saturday, May 18th, 12PM-5PM

Presented by Capital One, this rain or shine event will have beauty vendors, food sampling stations, live music, entertainment, family fun areas, cooking demonstrations, arts, and more. All the local shops and eateries will be open for business and will be offering special deals during the event.

11. Eagles Autism Challenge

Where: Lincoln Financial Field, 1 Lincoln Financial Field Way

When: Saturday, May 18th, 6AM

The 2nd annual Eagles Autism Challenge is this Saturday. Eagles fans, players, and staff will be pounding the pavement for a fantastic cause. Last year, $2.5 million was raised at the event with 100% of the proceeds going toward autism research. Participants can choose from 15, 30, or 50-mile cycling routes, a 5K run/walk, or the Sensory Walk, all beginning at Lincoln Financial Field and ending on the 50-yard line.  Activities include a Friday Night Kick-Off Party and Saturday Finish Line Celebration on the field.

12. International Museum Day

When: Saturday, May 18th

Free admission to the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Perelman Building, and Rodin Museum will be on the menu this Friday. In celebration of International Museum Day, you can go to these celebrated institutions at a wallet-friendly discount. The day raises awareness for the importance of museums for societal development.

13. South 9th Street Italian Market Festival

When: Saturday, May 18th-Sunday, May 19th

The Saturday and Sunday the savory aroma of delicious food will be in wafting through the Italian Market. This South Philadelphia Market will be hosting this rain or shine event. There will be a grease contest, live entertainment, crafts, and plenty of food.

14. WMMR-BQ

Where: BB&T Pavillion, 1 Harbour Blvd. Camden, NJ
When: Saturday, May 18th, 12:30PM

There’s only one place to see rockers Shinedown, Evanescence, The Struts, Joan Jett and The Blackhearts, Fozzy, The Glorious Sons, Bad Wolves, Siravo, and more this weekend. BB&T Pavillion will be hosting this year’s radio MMRBQ. This will be a sensational live music event for all rock fans in the area.

15. Rhythm and Brews

When: Saturday, May 18th, 3PM-9PM

For those of you living across the bridge or who don’t mind crossing it, there’s exciting beer and music festival taking place in Haddon Heights this Saturday. There will be several artisan vendors selling crafts, local craft beers, food trucks, and more. This is booming event is in its third year and is rain or shine.

16. Seattle Sounders FC vs. Union

When: Saturday, May 18th, 7:30PM

The Philadelphia Union will be taking on Seattle Sounders FC under the Saturday night lights this weekend. The three loss local team will be looking to notch their eighth win of the season against the Emerald City opponent. Bring your enthusiasm, cheers, and passion to Chester, PA this Saturday.

17. Old Dominion

Nashville country music band Old Dominion will be playing at The Mann Center this Saturday night. The Make It Sweet Tour supports their latest release track with the same name. The CMT Awards nominees will be bringing their amazing hits to this outdoor amphitheater.

18. Boom 103.9 Presents The Class of 2019

Money Bagg Yo, Light Skin Keisha, City Girls, and “Big Ole Freak” hitmaker  Megan Thee Stallion will be rocking the house at The Fillmore Philadelphia stage. THE BOOM 103.9 CLASS Of 2019 features some of the best acts in music and several up-and-coming artists on the scene.

19. Lizzo

Sizzling star and songstress Lizzo will be burning up the Theatre of Living Arts stage this Saturday night. The “Juice” and “Truth Hurts” singer recently released her debut album Cuz I Love You in April. Come see this amazing talent on a beautiful weekend night.

20. Spruce Street Harbor Park

22. Chestnut Hill Home and Garden Festival

Where: 8000 to 8600 blocks of Germantown Ave.
When: Sunday, May 19th, 11AM-5PM

Over 150 home & garden vendors will be lining the streets of historic Germantown Avenue this Sunday. There will be terrariums, vegetable plants, hand-made furniture, jewelry, garden sculptures, and more up for sale. There will be countless food and drink vendors on the premises as well.  Bring your kids out for amusement rides, live music, crafts, a rock climbing wall, and more
