What’s happening in Philly this weekend: June 14-16

1. Closing Soon: Flag Fest

When: Saturday, June 15th

The Stripes and Stars Festival will take over the National Constitution Center, Independence Mall, and other structures in the Philadelphia’s Historic District this Friday. The Museum of the American Revolution will have an amazing lineup of programs through the weekend.

2. Closing Soon: Antony Gormley: STAND

Where: Philadelphia Museum of Art, 2600 Benjamin Franklin Pkwy.
When: Runs through Sunday, June 16th

The Philadelphia Museum of Art’s phenomenal showcase of these stellar structures will be coming to an end this weekend. Antony Gormley: STAND features pieces by British artist Antony Gormley. The Museum’s Rocky steps have displayed these ten cast-iron ”blockwork” sculptures for months. Come see these wonderful works of artistry before it’s too late.

3. Closing Soon: Big Apple Circus

Where: Greater Philadelphia Expo Center, 100 Station Ave. Oaks, PA
When: Runs through Sunday, June 16th

A feat of acrobatics and skill will be coming to an end this weekend. The Big Apple Circus has been at Greater Philadelphia Expo Center for the last month bringing cheers and feats of the circus world right to your doorstep. There are live animals, sky-high daredevils, high wires, and so many more entertaining options for the entire family.

4. Piazza Pod Park

Where: Piazza Pod Park, 1075 Germantown Ave.
When: Open through the season

A new and intriguing park has opened for business in the heart of Northern Liberties. The 35,000-square-foot space has tons of food options, art displays, cultural pieces, family play areas, and more. Stop by the fitness area to work out or grab drinks at Urban Village Brewing Company’s zone with seating for 300 people. Bebot, a 33-foot robot statue, guards the gateway to this new park that will be buzzing for months.

5. Collin Park Wine Garden

Where: John F. Collins Park,  1707 Chestnut St.
When: Every Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, 4PM-9PM

Spend your summer evenings at this lovely outdoor beer and wine garden. At the Collins Park Wine Garden, you’ll be able to sip on Chaddsford wines and Pennsylvania craft beer. Every Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 4 pm-9 pm, this wonderful pace has you covered. Wines are $6 to $8 a glass and PA craft beer cans are $6. Attendees can purchase take-home bottles for $12-$18.

6. Wizard World Comic Con 2019

Where: Pennsylvania Convention Center, 1101 Arch St.
When: Run through Sunday, June 16th

Come to the Pennsylvania Convention Center this weekend to catch some cast members from The Vampire DiariesSupergirlCharmedSmallville, Once Upon a Time, WWE professional wrestlers, and more. All of you comic, fantasy, action, and adventure fans get ready for the photo ops, vendors, live displays, and all the fun and games. Some of your favorite characters will be on hand at this blowout celebration.

7. Philly Caribbean Carnival and Parade

This weekend will be bursting with excitement and celebrations. The 2019 Philly Caribbean Carnival and Parade will feature a series of events over the next few days. There will be a Jouvert party on Friday, a massive parade this Saturday in Fairmount Park, and a concert after the parade. The festivities

8. Cirque De La Symphonie

Where: Kimmel Center, 300 S. Broad St.
When: Runs through Friday, June 14th

Prepare yourself for incredible acrobatic feats, soaring heights, and wondrous music at Cirque De La Symphonie. Marvelous movement across the stage will captivate you while the orchestra will sweep you away with each note. This is a one-of-a-kind experience that’s both gravity-defying and musically inspiring.

9. SoLow Fest

When: Run through Sunday, June 23rd

Slowfest provides an artistic opportunity for all disciplines. This festival pay-what-you-can and is full of various plays, dance performances, musical showcases, and more. Shows will be at non-traditional locations and expose you to raw artistry.  Slowfest breaks from the confines of theater and offers up a unique experience.

10. Friday Night Live at Dilworth Park

Where: Dilworth Park, 1 S 15th St.
When: Friday, June 9th, 5PM-8PM

There are several daily fun activities and events at Dilworth Park. This Friday is Friday Night Live. Hosted by 93.3 WMMR’s Brent Porche, this live music showcase features the best bands in the area. There will be food and drinks for purchase as you rock out to great tunes and enjoy a night out with friends.

11. Dave Matthews Band

Where: BBT Pavillion, 1 Harbour Blvd.
When: Friday, June 14th & Saturday, June 16th

Dave Matthews Band will be taking over the outdoor amphitheater on the Camden Waterfront this Friday and Saturday. DMB will be doing great covers, a fan-favorite setlist, and has surprises. The Grammy award-winning act will be playing in front of their adoring fans and belting out their countless hits. Don’t miss your chance to sing to your heart’s content this weekend.

12. Juneteenth Celebrations 

Where: Johnson House, 6306 Germantown Ave.
When: Saturday, June 15th, 12PM-7PM

Bring your friends and family out to the Johnson House Historic Site this Saturday for The Philadelphia Juneteenth Festival. This free event will include live entertainment, music, panel discussions, food vendors, family-friendly activities, crafts, and more. This cultural festival will celebrate the anniversary of Juneteenth. The date that signifies the passage and ratification of the 13th Amendment to the US Constitution.

13. Disability Pride Parade

Where: Parade starts at 6th & Arch streets and ends at City Hall, 1400 John F. Kennedy Blvd.
When: Saturday, June 15th, 10AM-4PM

The 2019 Philadelphia Pride Parade is this Saturday. This great event seeks to raise awareness about the way people with disabilities are viewed and received. This is a parade of acceptance and recognizing the wonderful spectrum of human diversity. The official parade starts at 11 am. There will be speeches, vendors, and more.

14. Kayak Excursion: Graffiti Pier

Where: Independence Seaport Museum, 211 S Christopher Columbus Blvd.
When: Saturday, June 15th, 11AM-3PM

Come to the Independence Seaport Museum for beautiful sights and sounds of the Delaware River this weekend. You’ll be able to get a one-of-a-kind view of Graffiti Pier, via the river, during a six-mile journey in a kayak. There will be a stop at Penn Treaty Park on the way.

15. Pizzadelphia Pizza Festival

This Saturday several great pizza connoisseurs, restaurateurs, and chefs are ascending on the region to partake in this delicious pizza festival. The Navy Yard will be full of pizza demos, live music spun by DJs, drinks, games, and more. Bring yourself to the waterfront for a sizzling, cheesy, and savory good time.

16. Philly Food Truck Festival

17. 40th Street Summer Series

Where: 40th St.  and Walnut St.
When: Saturday, June 15th, 6PM

The third Saturday of the month, the 40th Street Summer Series kicks off your evening the right way. This Saturday, Stargazer Lily and Ashley Phillips will be the featured acts. From pop-rock to the folk sounds of a singer-songwriter hue, this event has you covered. Come out for this festivity of joy, music, and togetherness.

18. Raiders of the Lost Ark Live

Where: The Mann, 5201 Parkside Ave.
When: Saturday, June 15th, 8PM

Get ready to watch Raiders of the Lost Ark at Mann Center this Saturday night. The spanning amphitheater will have the beloved feature film projecting on a 40-foot screen. The Reading Symphony Orchestra will be playing live instruments as the action unfolds.

19. Nav

Nav brings his Bad Habits Tour to The Fillmore Philadelphia this Saturday night. The Canadian rapper has collaborated with Meek Mill,  Offset, Lil Uzi Vert, 21 Savage, and several other hitmakers in hip-hop. His 2019 release, Bad Habits, debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200.

20. Billie Eilish

If you listed the hottest young names in music, you wouldn’t get far before naming Billie Eilish. The WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP World Tour makes its stop in the City of Brotherly Love this Saturday. The “When The Party’s Over”, “Ocean Eyes”, and “Bellyache” star quickly sold out the venue. There are re-sales available at Ticketmaster, Live Nation, StubHub, and more.

21. Pop Up Play

Bring your family out to Pop Up Play each Sunday at Spruce Street Harbor Park. This interactive playtime will be guiding your kids through the themes of music, art, science, history, physics, and more. There will be plenty of games and smiles at this active event.

22. Bloomsday at The Rosenbach

When: Sunday, June 16, noon – 8 p.m.

This Saturday the annual tradition of celebrating James Joyce’s epic tale Ulysses will be taking place at The Rosenbach. There will be a day-long reading of the text which, length has haunted me since freshman year English class. The event will also feature live music, a beer garden, food vendors, and more.

23. Philadelphia Eagles Football Academy in Philadelphia

Where: Philadelphia Eagles Novacare Complex, 2 Novacare Way.
When: Sunday, June 16th, 9AM-1PM

The Philadelphia Eagles will be hosting a youth football camp this Sunday. Ages 7 to 16 can come out to the Novacare Complex to go through great skills courses with the Eagles players and staff. This will be a fun way to engage with the game’s best players.

24. Atlantic City Blackjacks vs. Philadelphia Soul

When: Sunday, June 16th, 4PM

The Philadelphia Soul and the Atlantic City Blackjacks both have three wins this season. The local arena league team will be taking them on this Sunday at the Wells Fargo Center in front of a raucous crowd. Don’t miss your opportunity to see this high-paced sport with your very eyes.

25. Father’s Day

When: Sunday, June 16th

There will be tremendous ways to celebrate the special man in your family’s life this weekend. This Friday there will be a Father’s Day Vietnamese Concert at SugarHosue Casino. The American Helicopter Museum and Education Center will open their doors for a FatherFest. For science enthusiasts, the Academy of Natural Sciences is offering free entry to fathers this Sunday. The Museum of the American Revolution will be hosting a Father’s Day weekend series of activities. This Saturday will be a Father’s Day Celebration at African American Musem.   Be sure to check out the Father’s Day menus at Urban Farmer, The Spirit of Philadelphia, Square 1682, Ocean Prime, and others.
