What’s happening in Philly this weekend: Nov. 8-10

1. Closing Soon: Philly Cider Week

Where: Various locations

When: Runs through Friday, November 8

This weekend, Philly Cider Week will be coming to an end. Several bars, restaurants, lounges, and beer gardens in the city have been participating in this festive fun for several days. Stop by the countless locations in the area and get some tremendous brews.

2. Closing Soon: Terror Behind the Walls

Where: Eastern State Penitentiary | 2027 Fairmount Ave

When: Through Saturday, November 9

The Eastern State Penitentiary has been doing thrilling and terror-filled tours for the entire season. The former high-profile prison had many frightening attractions coming from the cellblocks each week. Bring your family and friends out to this horrifying institution that will be filled with thunderous sounds, shocking moments, and more before its too late.

3. Closing Soon: Pumpkinland 

Where: Linvilla Orchards | 137 West Knowlton Rd | Media, PA

When: Through Sunday, November 10

Hoodie and pumpkin spiced latte season will be turning into winter coats and fuzzy hats time very soon. This means Linvilla Orchards’ Pumpkinland will be ending its run weekend. The family tradition of the Delaware Valley has featured live music, hayrides, corn mazes, a  jack-o-lantern exhibit, and so much more for over a month.

4. Winter at Dilworth Park

Where: Dilworth Park | 1 S 15th St

When: Friday, November 8 – Sunday, February 23

Center City Parks District opens the Dilworth Park WintergardenRothman Institute Ice Rink, and Rothman Cabin this week. The rink is one of the memorable structures that perches next to City Hall during the wintry months. After skating with your friends and family be sure to stop by the Rothman Cabin for holiday-themed brews, small bites, and warm beverages. The opening two-day festivities and celebrations (Friday and Saturday) feature ice sculptures, entertainment, skating, snacks, and more.

5. Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival

Where: Various locations

When: Runs through Sunday, November 17

The Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival kicks off this week. The inclusive and celebratory film festival has been a big-ticket in the city since its creation in 2008. The festival will include movie screenings, discussions, awards, and more. Don’t miss your chance to see some phenomenal works displaying the Asian experience on the big screen

6. Philadelphia Museum of Art Contemporary Craft Show

Where: Pennsylvania Convention Center | 1101 Arch St

When: Runs through Sunday, November 10

The 43rd Annual Philadelphia Museum of Art Contemporary Craft Show will bring 195 artists from the United States and 22 guest artists from Israel into the doors of the Pennsylvania Convention Center for three days. This contemporary craft show, will wow you with the collection of crafts and intricate pieces on display.

7. CraftNOW Weekend Events

When: Runs through Sunday, November 10

CraftNOW Philadelphia will continue to showcase some of the best artisans in the city through the end of the month. This weekend, there will be a CraftNOW Symposium PAFA. The panel provides a platform for critical discourse in contemporary craft. CraftNOW Create will be this Saturday. Enjoy a free full day of hands-on exploration and take-home activities hosted at the Kimmel Center. Stop by The Fabric Workshop and Museum on the same day for an Indian block-printing workshop.

8. Holiday Showcase at Reading Terminal Market

Where: Reading Terminal Market | 51 N 12th St

When: Runs through Saturday, November 9

Reading Terminal Market will be giving shoppers a taste of what’s to come this holiday season. The Holiday Showcase is a two-day event and it will feature vendors displaying what they’ll be selling during the upcoming months.

9. World Premieres at the Merriam Theater

When: Runs through Sunday, November 10

The Pennsylvania Ballet will be bringing an immersive and awe-inspiring experience to the Merriam Theater this weekend. World Premieres will feature premiere productions from some of the dance world’s most exciting choreographers. Come see these greats works by Garrett Smith, Juliano Nunes, and Yin Yue.

10. Shrek The Musical

When: Runs through Sunday, January 5

Walnut Street Theatre will be putting on a production of this beloved DreamWorks Animation feature for the next few months. Shrek The Musical features all the treasured characters that made the film so celebrated over the past few years. Come see the Oscar-winning movie brought to life like nothing you’ve ever seen before.

11. POPS Rocks Abbey Road at the Kimmel Center

When: Runs through Sunday, November 10

The Philly POPS will be playing some of The Beatles’ best songs at The Kimmel Center this weekend. Conductor Todd Ellison will be leading the talented group of musicians in this celebration of some of the most recognized songs of all time. Stop by to hear “Come Together”, “Here Comes the Sun”,  “Something”, and several other hits.

12. Nikki Glaser

Where: Punch Line Philly | 33 E Laurel St 

When: Runs through Sunday, November 10

Punch Line Philly will be the place to be for all the laughs this weekend. Nikki Glaser, a Comedy Central stand up veteran, will be performing for three nights at the popular comedy venue. She also co-hosted an MTV late-night talk show called Nikki and Sara LIVE. Come see the hilarious comedian on the center stage.

13. Steely Dan

Where: The Met Philadelphia | 858 N Broad St

When: Friday, November 8 | 8 p.m.

Steely Dan has two shows lined up for this weekend. Saturday’s concert is sold out but fans do not fret. The show on Friday night still has tickets available. The band has have sold more than 40 million albums worldwide. The 2001 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees will be rocking The Met all night long.

14. The New Pornographers

Where: Union Transfer | 1026 Spring Garden St. 

When: Friday, November 8 | 8:30 p.m.

The New Pornographers will be playing at Union Transfer this Friday night. The indie-rockers released their eighth studio album, In the Morse Code of Brake Lights, in September. singer-songwriter Lady Lamb will be at the bill as an opening act.

Elton John

Where: Wells Fargo Center | 3601 S Broad St

When: Friday, November 8 | 8:30 p.m.

Music legend Elton John will be playing at the Wells Fargo Center this Friday. One of the best-selling musicians of all-time, the five-time Grammy winner will be playing some of the songs that has made him a household name through the decades.

16. Love Your Park Fall Service Day 2019

When: Saturday, November 9

Love Your Park is a fantastic endeavor created by the city of Philadelphia. Every park in the city will be hosting diverse events geared towards beautification and cleaning certain green areas. Some locations will have breakfast and brunch for volunteers and activities afterward. Your Park Fall Service Day is free, but registration is mandatory.

17. Family Fun Day at the AAMP

Where: African American Museum in Philadelphia | 701 Arch St

When: Saturday, November 9 | 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.

This Saturday, bring all your loved ones out to the African American Museum for Macy’s Family Fun Day. This week, there will be a Comic Book Mini-Con. Come out for the panel discussions, vendors, games and prizes, and more. This free event for all ages.

18. 2nd Saturday Street Art Tours

Where: 36th and Chestnut Sts (starting locations)

When: Saturday, November 9 | 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. – 4 p.m.

Every second Saturday, Streets Dept’s Conrad Benner, will be hosting a walking tour of Philadelphia’s most stunning street art, murals, and graffiti. This will be an immersive and informative tour full of colorful designs and great conversation.

19. Moby-Dick Reading at the Independence Seaport Museum

Where: Independence Seaport Museum | 211 S Christopher Columbus Blvd

When: Saturday, November 9 – Sunday, November 10

The Independence Seaport Museum and The Rosenbach have teamed up for literature filled this two-day event. Herman Melville’s celebrated nautical tale Moby-Dick will be read aloud over a 25-hour time period. There will also be crafts, an artifacts display, activities, and more.

20. Veterans Day Weekend Museum Events

Where: Various locations

When: Runs through Monday, November 11

The National Constitution Center and the Museum of the American Revolution will be having special Veterans Day events throughout the entire weekend. There will be flag-raising ceremonies, free admissions to the museum, wreath-laying ceremonies, Veteran discussions and more. The Independence Seaport Museum will also be hosting a Veterans Day service to commemorate the holiday as well.

21. Gershman Philadelphia Jewish Film Festival

The 38th Annual Philadelphia Jewish Film Festival kicks off this Saturday. The cultural film celebration will be holding special screenings and panel discussions. There will be 35 films in total from over 20 countries around the world. Come and see shorts, documentaries, long features, and others.

22. 2019 Philly Fall Crawl 

2019 Philly Fall Crawl

Where: Various locations

When:  Saturday, November 9 | 12 p.m. – 8 p.m.

The Philly Fall Crawl will have several restaurants and bars participating in food and drink festivities this weekend. Take your custom cup and map to any of the locations for drink specials and more. Crawlers will be rummaging through several Center City bars for this annual fall event that had 1,000 participants last year.

23. Morgan State vs. Temple

When: Saturday, November 9 | 2 p.m.

The Temple Owls will have their second game of the season this Saturday night at the Liacouras Center. The local program will be taking on the Morgan State Bears. Come see the Owls surge their season in the right direction and get their second consecutive win.

24. Louis the Child

When: Saturday, November 9 and Sunday, November 10 | 8 p.m.

Chicago DJ and production duo Louis the Child will be performing at The Fillmore Philadelphia this Saturday and Sunday. The “Better Not”, “It’s Strange”, “Weekend”, and “Fire” track masters will be bringing their unique show to this popular concert venue.

25. Janelle James

Good Good presents Janelle James (Late Night with Seth Meyers, Netflix)

Where: Good Good Comedy Theatre | 215 N 11th St

When: Saturday, November 9 | 8:30 p.m.

New Tork City based comedian and writer Janelle James will be performing at the Good Good Comedy Theatre this Saturday night. The Late Night with Seth Meyers, Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, HBO’s Crashing act has toured with Chris Rock and several others. Fro a hilarious night out, look no further.

26. 2019 Walk to End Alzheimer’s

Where: Citizens Bank Park | 1 Citizens Bank Way

When: Sunday, November 10 | 9 a.m. 9 (registration) and 11 a.m. (walk)

This Saturday is the 2018 Walk to End Alzheimer’s. The annual walk for a great cause will have a special ceremony before the walk. The event raises awareness of the disease and funding for research and care. Be sure to come out to register, take part in the walk, or donate on the website.

27. PECO Family Jams

Where: Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens | 1020 South St

When: Sunday, November 10 | 12 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Bring your entire family out to Philadelphia’s Magic Garden for a day of crafts and fun. PECO Family Jams: Wood Assemblages will allow you to make small wall hangings out of scraps of wood, colorful fabric, cardboard, tape, yarn, and more. This event is free with admission.

28. Off the Wall: American Art to Wear

The Philadelphia Museum of Art will be opening a new exhibit on Sunday. Off the Wall: American Art to Wear showcases the “nontraditional materials and methods to create adventurous, deeply imaginative works.”

29. Hornets vs. 76ers

When: Sunday, November 10 | 6 p.m.

Joel Embiid, Josh Richardson, Al Horford, and company will be back in action this Sunday night. The Sixers will be taking on the Charlotte Hornets in a primetime matchup. Come to the Wells Fargo Center and cheer on the emerging team. The Philly faithful will be out in droves hoping to spark the team in this early season matchup.

31. George Lopez

Famed comedian, actor, and late-night TV personality will be performing at Helium Comedy Club this Sunday night. Lopez has many celebrated feature films and TV shows on his resume. He’s been a household name in comedy for decades. If you’re looking for a good night of laughs and punchy storytelling get yourself a ticket.
