2020 NFL FREE AGENCY TRACKER: Ryan Tannehill re-signs with the Titans

So much for that Tom Brady and Mike Vrabel reunion.

The Tennessee Titans are sticking with the guy who helped guide them to the AFC Championship. Tannehill agreed to a four-year extension with the Titans on Sunday and according to ESPN’s Jeff Darlington, the pact has an average annual value of $29.5 million and includes $62 million fully guaranteed. He will receive $91 million in total guarantees.

Tannehill, who took over for Marcus Mariota in Week 6 against the Denver Broncos, went 7-3 during the regular season and posted the NFL’s best quarterback rating of 117.5. He threw for 2,742 yards, 22 touchdowns and six interceptions while completing 70.3 percent of his passes.

He was named the 2019 Comeback Player of the Year.

The Titans beat the New England Patriots and No. 1-seeded Baltimore Ravens in the playoffs before bowing out to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship. Originally the eighth pick of the 2012 draft by the Miami Dolphins, Tannehill was traded to Tennessee along with a sixth-round pick in exchange for a fourth and a seventh.

The Titans placed the franchise tag on Derrick Henry on Monday.

Henry was a big reason for Tannehill’s success due to his ability to throw the deep ball. The Titans’ strategy was simple, pound Henry into the ground and capitalize via the long ball in the play-action game.

That’s what Tannehill did all season long, we’ll see if it continues in 2020.
