Philly could begin preparing for July 3 ‘Green Phase’ re-opening

Today, Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney announced that Philadelphia is on track to enter the green phase of the state’s re-openings procedures. The mayor stated, “If our currents rates of progress continue it is likely that Philadelphia will reach the green phase in early July.” The mayor also wanted to express that Philadelphian has a responsibility to maintain the course of social distancing.

New Yellow Phase allowances will be added on June 26 if the progress continues:

  • Residential swimming pools and private swim clubs
  • Personal services such as salons, barbers, and spas
  • Zoos (outside only)
  • Small indoor social gatherings and religious gatherings (up to 25 people)

The following activities will be allowed in the Green Phase if progress continues:

  • Outdoor group recreational and sports activities for youth and adults
  • Gyms and indoor exercise  classes
  • Schools and colleges
  • Libraries and museums
  • Indoor shopping malls
  • Outdoor performances and small outdoor events (up to 50 people)
  • Restaurants with indoor seating (with occupancy restrictions)

The following activities will be not be allowed immediately at the beginning of the Green Phase: 

  • Casinos
  • Restaurants and bars with indoor seating (no occupancy restrictions)
  • Large outdoor events (more than 50 people)
  • Theaters and indoor events
  • In-person conventions/conferences
  • Large indoor social and religious gatherings (more than 25 people)
  • Senior services involving gatherings, such as adult daycare

 

The guidelines and restrictions for the re-openings will be released by the department of health in the coming week. In order for the city of Philadelphia to re-open, citizens must remain vigilant in their efforts to maintain social guidelines.
