Afternoon Tug 6-4-15

Finally!!! Game 1 is here and there is no way you can tell me that this series won’t live up to the hype. Probably 6 or 7 games, and you have to side with the Warriors on this one. How many bodies will Golden State toss in LBJ’s direction? Green, Barnes, Iggy, etc. The Warriors are deep and of course, they’re pretty damn good. The past few days I have really tried hard to talk myself into taking Bron and the Cavs, mainly because of the Vegas value, 2:1. Only thing is, I can’t get past Kyrie’s health and the depth of the Warriors. Honestly, if Kyrie is not a 100%, who’s he guarding? Night-Night. Warriors are your 2015 NBA Champs. ***Check out Godfatherlocks.com before you place a wager though, he’s on fire right now and the NBA is his forte.

Update from yesterdays Tug. Spoke with Sarah E. Todd on twitter yesterday. Yes, I found her, @NBASarah. She penned the Iguodala article that got me all hot and bothered. The following was tweeted about how I called bullshit towards Iggys claim that “the fans hurling curses in his direction when he walked the streets in Philly.” Sarah tweeted: “He told me a pretty detailed story with pretty detailed expletives, but ur more than welcome to call BS where u see fit.” Thank you Sarah, and I will. Iguodala held a grudge vs. the fans in this city because he never got the love that Iverson got. He never connected with us because of his ego, not ours. Well, we might’ve had something to do with it, but I’m still calling BS on the curses thing. (Philly)

Speaking of Allen Iverson. Yeah, this sucks to write. But, he was even worse of a human being than we all thought he was. Washington Post sportswriter, Kent Babb, through extensive research and interviews with those closest to Iverson, wrote a biography that debuted this week. In this wonderful book (on my favorite player growing up, damn it!!!!!) you will find that A.I. “once threatened his wife, Tawanna, that he would pay a man $5,000 to have her killed.” And if that doesn’t get you feeling good about “The Answer,” how about “Tawanna has also accused Allen of numerous instances of spousal abuse, including stepping on her bare foot and grinding his boot heel into it, and punching her in the back while laughing out loud. “That’s a kidney shot,” Damn, I will pick it up but this will suck to read. (Deadspin)

I’m not wasting my time on this but, if you want to read Marcus Hayes trying to convince you that “Riley Cooper is better than you think” here you go. (Philly.com)

Shoutout to Boomer & Carton from CBS Sports/WFAN. Last night they held a celebrity softball game at Yankee stadium that featured some HEAVY hitters! (And no I’m not talking about NJ Gov. Chris Christie’s weight) Big time NY heads like Rudy Giuliani, Rex Ryan, Joe Torre, Tom Coughlin etc. were all there yes, but the main reason for the love is…OVER 18K fans showed up, in support of the NYPD. More details: “proceeds will benefit the Silver Shield Foundation, the NYC PBA Widows’ and Children’s Fund, and the families of Moore, Ramos and Liu.” Nice work by the best morning show out there. (CBSSports)

Social Media Outrage or as I like to call it SMO, was at level 5 over the past few days because Caitlyn (Bruce) Jenner was named the ESPY’s recipient of the Arthur Ashe Courage Award. Some sportswriter up in Boston started circulating a false rumor that ESPN elected to award Jenner over a disabled vet. Not true.  Oh well, Facebook will have to find something else to be outraged about tomorrow. (Deadspin)

Dan Patrick and “Coach” John Calapari got into it about something today. Not quite sure what happened before but it sounds like to me, that DP was questioning, if Cal would’ve skipped the platoon system this past season, would that have resulted in a championship. Press play on the link and hear how awkward it sounds when DP “coaches” Calapari 15 times during the interview. (NBC)

Finally….tonight! Pitchers Pub is the spot, come through if you’re looking for a place to catch Game 1! I’ll be on the tunes starting at 10PM.
