Your NFC East Report: Week 3

Week two is in the rear view mirror for the Philadelphia Eagles and the rest of their division rivals in the NFC East. So where does each team currently stand in the division and what should you look for this upcoming week? I’ve got you covered in this week’s NFC East Report for the third week of the regular season!

Standings

That’s right, our beloved Birds and the New York Giants are the only winless teams in the division. The god damn Washington Redskins have a win after their Week 2 upset over the St. Louis Rams. Although it’s tough to admit, the Redskins may very well be the best team in the division right now. I know it sounds crazy but they’re the only team that has stayed relatively healthy and played well in both games to start the regular season.

As we all know, the Dallas Cowboys are now stuck with Brandon Weeden as their starting quarterback thanks to Eagles rookie inside linebacker Jordan Hicks. Sure they’re 2-0 now and at the top of the division but that likely won’t last long with all of their injuries adding up. Then there are the Eagles and Giants who both have flat out sucked to start the regular season. Although the Giants have been bitten by the injury bug. But the Eagles? Yeah…they don’t have many excuses for their embarrassing performance thus far.

Dallas Cowboys (2-0)

By far the best team in the division, Dallas is on an absolute roll and it doesn’t look like they’ll be stopping anytime soon…

Just kidding, the Cowboys would’ve been a team to watch for if they weren’t missing their two best offensive players for the next 8 weeks or so. While they’re lucky to be undefeated and have two division wins in their pocket, this will be the week Dallas’ demise begins. They’re facing the Atlanta Falcons, who just won close games against the Eagles and Giants. Clearly they have the NFC East figured out and the Cowboys are the next target on their divisional hitlist.

Washington Redskins (1-1)

Well now, the Redskins actually look like a decent football team. It’s a shock to many as nobody expected the Washington football team to do much in 2015. Their quarterback position appeared to be an absolute mess but that doesn’t matter when Alfred Morris and Matt Jones are carrying the ball like they are right now. With an underrated defense and an impressive ground game, Washington might be this year’s version of the 2014 Cowboys. But let’s not get too ahead of ourselves, Kirk Cousins is still their quarterback after all.

New York Giants (0-2)

The Giants started their season off with a bang! They became the first team ever to blow two double-digit leads in the fourth quarter in their first two games. Now that’s just embarrassing, almost as bad as having more penalty yards than total offensive yards in the first half of a game…*cough* Eagles! *cough*

Seriously though, despite their awful fourth quarter collapses, the Giants actually look decent. Considering they’re missing quite a few key starters on both sides of the ball, they could easily be 2-0 right now instead of 0-2. It’ll be interesting to see if they can figure it all out tonight when they take on the Redskins at MetLife Stadium and get a much-needed division win.

Philadelphia Eagles (0-2)

Speaking of much needed wins, the Eagles game this Sunday against the New York Jets is pretty much a must-win game. Although it’s just Week 3, the Eagles have looked downright awful through two games. The sad part is they don’t have any legitimate excuses for their sorry performances. It’s not like they’re missing any key players, they’ve just sucked. It’s that simple.

Sadly the Eagles couldn’t have ran into a hotter team in the NFL than the Jets. They’ve dominated both of their opponents thus far, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Todd Bowles’ defense leads the league in takeaways with 10 through two games, that’s unheard of. So of course the Eagles, who can’t get anything on offense, will be matched up against arguably the best defense in the NFL. The only chance they have in this game is to force some turnovers of their own and put the Jets’ defense in a tough spot on the field.
